Lyon County Museum wins History Award for exhibit

The Lyon County Historical Museum in Marshall was one of seven Minnesota museums to receive a Minnesota History Award from the Minnesota Alliance of Local History Museums.
The award was for Lyon County Museum's exhibit "Making Lyon County Home" that is still on display on the second floor of the museum.
The seven museums and one lifetime achievement winner will be honored at the annual meeting and conference on Thursday, April 29.
In its 11th year, the event will be held virtually for the first time since pausing in 2020. Award recipients' completed projects or achieved the criteria for lifetime achievement in 2019 and 2020.
“While delayed, we honor them for their tremendous projects and contributions to the Minnesota local history field,” said History Awards Committee Chair Adam Smith, an archives technician with Minnesota State University, Mankato Library Services.
This year, the Alliance will hit a milestone of awarding 50 organizations with a Minnesota History Award since the program began in 2009. “In a year filled with uncertainty, we are proud to amplify the incredible efforts of so many who continue to preserve and share Minnesota history,” says Alliance Coordinator Gibson Stanton. The Lifetime Achievement Award, started in 2016, has honored over 20 individuals during that time. A complete list of previous award winners is located on the Alliance website.
