Lyon County Museum announces changes due to recent shutdown

In compliance with Minnesota Executive Order 20-99, the Lyon County Museum in Marshall will be closed on Nov. 21 and remain closed for four weeks. We hope to reopen on Dec. 19, but will have to wait see if the order is extended or not.

The second floor exhibit preview nights for members and donors on December 3 and 4 have been canceled. The public grand opening week (Dec.r 7-12) for the second floor exhibit gallery, “Making Lyon County Home” is canceled. We will open the exhibit gallery when the museum can safely reopen again. A grand opening celebration will be planned for 2021.

The 8th annual Indoor Christmas Tree Walk will go on with modifications. Photos of the trees will be posted soon on the museum’s Facebook page, website, and the Marshall Independent. An online option for donating for your favorite tree or trees will be set up in the next couple of days. The tree walk will be extended through January and hope that visitors will be able to view and vote for the trees in person at the museum.

The Heritage Room in the museum and other areas are decorated for the holiday season. In the next four weeks, photos and videos will be shared online. The decorations will be kept up through January in anticipation that people can see the museum decorated in person.

"Once we know more information on when we can safely reopen, we will release more information and open hours," said Executive Director Jennifer Andries. "Thank you to all the staff, volunteers, and tree walk participants for getting the museum ready for the holiday season.

"In a normal year, this is our busiest time of the year. Unfortunately, in these unprecedented times, all we can do is adjust and move forward. We look forward to greeting our visitors in a few weeks and showing off the museum in all its holiday splendor."
