Trip to Niagara Falls

Trips planned from Hope Lutheran Church in Minneota have shown Minneota kids to have a big heart. Currently they are a trip to Niagara Falls in New York to help with projects and give a boost to local residents.

These trips have proved to be most helpful to those they go to help. On the trip along with the kids this year is Photographer Brian Jeremiason. He sent back some photos (including those on the left of this column), and filed this report:

“Day two in New York for our Minneota Area Mission Trip.

Today we worked in smaller teams through out the community. Our team spent the day working at Hannah’s House. Items are donated to Hannah House Children’s Mission. Hanna House then distributes those items FREE to families when in need.

Diapers, formula, clothing, food, are given on a regular basis.

We spent the day organizing, clearing, cleaning, planting and learning. We also had the opportunity to distribute small care packages to neighbors in the community. Afterwords we were able to swing by Niagara Falls for a short visit before gathering back at our host site for prayer, service, reflection and some fun.

Finally, we also went as a group to do a Poverty Exercise, to learn more about how poverty effects the region and the families that deal with it on a regular basis Powerful, humbling stuff. Excited for tomorrow.”

IT’S GREAT to see our young people taking time off their busy summers to go out and help other people.

Hope Lutheran is doing a great service by organizing these events, sending volunteers and keeping these youth working to help others. Can’t imagine it can do anything but make them better people for the rest of their lives.

LAUGH A LITTLE: Duuuuh! A man arrived at the hospital and the doctor said: “What brings you here?” The man looked at the doctor and said simply, “An Ambulance!” By the way: What’s the difference between ignorance and apathy? Answer: “I don’t know and I don’t care!” Question: “I’m a word that begins with the letter I. If you add the letter A to me, I become a new word with a different meaning, but that sounds exactly the same. What word am I? Answer: Isle (add A to make “Aisle”)

THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK: As my Ole Pappy used to say, “Before you speak, listen. Before you write, think. Before you spend, earn. Before you invest, investigate. Before you criticize, wait. Before you pray, forgive. Before you quit, try!” Ole Pappy took me aside one day and helped me understand a very important fact in life. He said, “Quitters never win and winners never quit.” I took that to heart, and when I was raising my kids I used that theory with them when they wanted to quit something — like sports. Because of Ole Pappy I wouldn’t let them quit. Today, my son thanked me for not letting him quit wrestling. And today, he gives the same advise to other parents. Thanks Ole Pappy!
