Frost entertains at a
Hotel Pacific supper
Miss Jennie Frost entertained several young ladies on the piano during a supper at the Hotel Pacific Tuesday evening. As usual, the catering of Mr. and Mrs. Everson was highly satisfactory to all. Miss Frost expects to leave for Madelia soon, where she will teach during the coming school year.
Lake Benton event
blew their hats off
Mr. and Mrs. Charles Nevins, Mrs. G.O. Everson, Miss Sadie Pierce, Mrs. T.D. Seals and Mr. and Mrs. Otto Hein traveled to Lake Benton last Friday, where they enjoyed a pleasant outing. Otto Hein acted as chauffeur for the party, a rather exciting task due to the fact that several of the ladies had to recover their hats, which were quite frequently blown off by the strong wind.
O.G. Anderson & Co.
loading live poultry
O.G. Anderson & Co. announced recently that they will have a car on the railroad track for loading live poultry on Friday, Sept. 1 and until noon on Saturday, Sept. 2. Prices are either in cash or trade.

Locals awarded bus
garage contract
William Anderson and Albert Boogaard were successful bidders on the new public school bus garage and were awarded the contract for erecting the building at a special meeting of the school board on Monday evening. These men were low bidders with a bid of $7.218.21. Christianson Brothers were next with a bid of $7,247.75. The garage will be 36 feet by 50 feet in order to house four buses, and will be built from cement blocks.
High school still
needs principal
Superintendent R.T. Lovell informed the Mascot that he still lacked a principal in the high school but that he hopes to have the position filled before long. Mr. Lovell had hired a lady as principal but she wired him last week that she would be unable to take the job because of illness. The school also is looking to hire a third-grade teacher.
Josephson to manage
Minneota Liquor Store
Paul Falk, who has been the manager of the Minneota Liquor Store for the past 12 years, handed in his resignation to the Village Council last week. After accepting Mr. Falk's resignation, the council appointed Stanley Josephson as manager of the store. He will take over as soon as he is relieved of his duties at the post office.
Fire damages home
on Grevstad farm
A fire, which was started by lightning, did considerable damage to the Thomas S. Grevstad home about 14 miles northeast of Minneota. Clarkfield fire fighters responded and the received additional help from the Minneota Fire Department. The lightning blew a hole in the roof of the house and started a fire.

Two schools here
enroll 987 students
Figures released by officials at Minneota's two schools Monday afternoon show that Minneota's total enrollment of students were slightly less at the start of the 1972-73 school year than it was at the opening of the term in 1971, Total enrollment here was 987. That includes 788 at the Minneota Public School and 209 at St. Edward Catholic School. The total enrollment last year was 1,005.
Manor making plans
for Grand Opening
Max Blaufuss, administrator for Minneota Manor, announced Tuesday that preparations are now being completed for the grand opening. Mary Ann Full, Director of Nursing, will be attending Lakeside Nursing Home in Pine City for in-service training. She will be accompanied by Mrs. Judy Savoie, one of the staff nurses here. Edwin Amundson, custodian for the Manor, has been working with the Aitkin Nursing Home in preparation for the opening here. A grand opening date will be announced next week.
Garbage pickup is
delayed for repairs
A broken part that controls the system on the garbage truck, as well as a delay of equipment from the Twin Cities, caused a delay of garbage pickup last week. The part broke last Wednesday and the new part did not arrive here until Saturday. Village workers had the truck repaired by Monday morning.
Dairy judging team
compete at state fair
The following from this section of Lyon County are members of the dairy judging team and will compete at the Minnesota State Fair: Mary Ann Moorse of Minneota, Bernie Moorse of Minneota, and Mike Hennen of Ghent. The judging event is set for Thursday, Aug. 31.

Trophy to be awarded
for best parade entry
A traveling trophy will be awarded for the local entry that most characterizes the Boxelder Bug theme in this year's parade. A panel of judges will be looking over the local floats, and the trophy made by Monte Yeo, will be housed for the next year with the winner. The rules are simple and there is no cost to enter. The theme has to center around the Boxelder Bug Days celebration and be individuals, groups or businesses.
Ivanhoe girls win
spelling bee here
Laurel Dombek of Ivanhoe was the winner of the Lyon County Community Spelling Bee held at City Hall in Minneota on Tuesday. There were 10 entrants in this year's contest, including Bill, Allison, Tony and Emily Ufkin of Minneota; Valerie and Brittany Buysse of Minneota; Lori and Betsy Dyce of Ghent; Barbara Yorde of Marshall; and Dombek. Allan Dovre and Gayle VanVooren were the judges, Mollie Person was Master of Ceremonies and pronounced the words for the contest
Vikings lose grid
opener to Fulda
Minneota's season and home football opener was spoiled Thursday night when the Vikings fell to Fulda, 12-6. The lone score for the Vikings came in the third quarter when quarterback Travis Obe connected on a 10-yard touchdown pass to Waylon Yeo. That drive started on the Fulda 34-yard-line after Steve Sussner recovered a fumble. The Vikings had over 400 yards of offense. Neil Fier and Josh Sanow both rushed for over 60 yards, while Andy Hennen and John Myhre ran for over 50 yards each. Obe passed for 217 yards.
