Some threshing is
completed in area
There has been some threshing work done in the Minneota area already and the yield is very good in every instance, as far as we have heard. The highest wheat yield reported is from a nine-acre patch of winter wheat on the Josephson Brothers farm. This patch went 36 bushels to the acre.

NBA urges school to
hire athletic director
Members of the Minneota Businessmen's Association, meeting at the school Tuesday evening, went on record urging the Board of Education to hire an athletic director on a 12-month basis so that a recreational program during the summer months would be supervised. Those attending the meeting were nearly unanimous in their opinions that a well-planned and directed recreational program was needed here during the summer months.

Legion building's
foundation poured
The foundation was poured for the Legion building Monday of this week when 20 members of the post assisted construction workers in mixing and pouring concrete for the structure. Legion members who did this work without pay started early Monday morning and continuing all day until 6 p.m. when this phase of the building was completed. A contractor is expected to begin laying the sub-floor of the auditorium next week.

Local 4-H members
heading to State Fair
Sixteen 4-H boys and girls will represent Lyon County at the Minnesota State Fair this year. The 4-H winners will leave for St. Paul on Aug. 22. Among those representing Lyon County from this area are: Edith Heggeseth of the Nordland Top Notchers with her Food Preparations demonstrations, Kenneth Rye of the Nordland Top Notchers with his dairy calf, Leo Moorse of the Nordland Top Notchers with his Chester White gilt, Jeannette Claeys of the Eidsvold Lucky Stars with her Home Making Assistance demonstration.

Girl Scouts attend
camp near Clarkfield
Members of the Minneota Girl Scouts spent some time, along with girls from Canby and Clarkfield at Oraas Grove on Highway 59 south of Clarkfield last week. Those girls attending from Minneota were Dawn Dero, Dana Miller, Suzanne Wambeke, Robin Boe, Julie Vanerostyne, Sharon Wambeke, Jane Seifert, Lou Ann Obe, Carol Konold, Sharon Traen, Barbara Tolk, Tammy Schwartz, Beth DeCock, Janet Konold, Jackie Coequyt, Cindy Drown, Janet Drown, Julie Fox, Joan Coequyt, Cynthia Tolk, Norma Rogge, Kathy DeCock and Betty Traen.

Suzie Tillemans wins
'Little Miss Fashion'
Suzie Tillemans, the 11-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Tillemans of Minneota and a member of the Eidsvold Lucky Stars 4-H club, won the title of "Little Miss Fashion" beginner queen at the 4-H Fashion Revue held at Marshall last Wednesday evening. She modeled a red and white striped sailor pant dress of 100 percent sailcloth. The style show is a yearly 4-H event.

Harvey elected head
of Lyon County Council
Mrs. Dora Harvey of Minneota was elected president of the Lyon County Council on Aging at Russell on Monday evening. The election took place at the monthly county meeting of senior citizens by county board officers. Dora is a member of the local Senior Citizens Advisory Board.

School board opens
bids for milk, oil
Sealed bids for the 1972-73 school year operation were acted upon by the local school board at its regular monthly meeting last week. The milk bid was award to Oak Grove Dairy at a fee of 83 cents per gallon. The M-G-T Co-op Oil Company was given the contract to supply gasoline for the school buses at 5.5 cents off the regular pump price. Hicks Oil Company of Pipestone submitted the low bid of 11.08 cents per gallon for number five heating oil.

Lady bowlers to
hold review meeting
The Minneota Women's Bowling Association will meet Monday night at the American Legion building to discuss the upcoming year of competition. All teams are to have at least one representative at the meeting. If you are new to the community and would like to be on a bowling team, this would be an excellent time to get involved.

19 Bug Days queen
candidates named
Nineteen queen candidates for Boxelder Bug Days have been announced. The candidates, all seniors this fall, are Nicole Haugen, Kristie Nuese, Kristin Nelson, Sarah Broughton, Stacy Regnier, Kristi Coover, Kayla VanDePutte, Beth DeSmet, Krystal Claeys, Val Bottelberghe, Jill DeBaere, Amanda Verschelde, Amanda Hennen, Chrissi Boulton, Jessica Hettling, Lacey DeVos, Lisa Abels, April Hammerstrom and Sarah Lundberg.

Taunton church invites
public to Sunday event
Parishioners at Sts. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church in Taunton are hosting an all-day event on Sunday, Aug. 17 and they hope you can come. A roast beef dinner with all the trimmings will be served beginning at 11 a.m. in their air-conditioned dining hall. There will also be a cake walk, children's booths, country store and an afternoon lunch with a drawing for prizes.

Senior Center to
honor volunteers
The Minneota Senior Citizens Center will hold a special Volunteer Appreciation Night on Aug. 13. Volunteers are so important to the success of the senior center and Joanne Myrvik, the Senior Center Director, is thankful for the many volunteers who give their time and efforts. Entertainment will be provided by the Melo-Tones. Refreshments will follow.
