Tillemans purchases
bank in Florence
H.J. Tillemans, the president of the Farmers and Merchants National Bank of Minneota, in company with Mr. Glemmestad of Tyler, announced that they have purchased the State Bank of Florence in this county.

Minneota man injured
while loading hogs
S.J. Isfeld of Minneota met with an accident loading hogs in Porter on Tuesday. A heavy hog ran over and his left foot was caught between planks causing a severe wrenching of the left leg and injured his knee. He has been under doctor's care here this week.

Hanson honored
for butter making
Year-round efficiency in butter making brought top honors to four men, including Melvin Hanson of Minneota, at the annual meeting of Land O' Lake Creamery, Inc. in Minneapolis last week. The honor is determined by product excellence and good plant operation. Hanson placed third in the state in the salted butter class. Winners received merchandise prizes.

Municipal Liquor Store
shows $16,700 profit
Operation of the Municipal Liquor Store in Minneota for the year ending Dec. 31, 1946, resulted in a net profit of $16,758.71, according to a village financial statement. Last year's net profit represents an increase of $7,263.74 as compared with the net profit of 1945. Sales at the liquor store last year amounted to $90,691.64, as compared to $70,681.55 the previous year. Cost of operating the store totaled $4,161,05 in 1946. During last year, $16.000 was transferred from the liquor store to the general and water fund of the village.

Special kids matinee
to be shown at Joy
A special matinee of comedies, shorts and cartoons, staged for the benefit of children of this community is scheduled at the Joy Theatre on Saturday. There will be two showings of the two-hour program of movies, the first at 10 a.m. and the second at 2 p.m. Medard Debbaut, manager of the theatre, said he plans on staging these children's matinees about every four weeks.

Women in favor of
hospital project here
Ninety-four percent of the women in Minneota, contacted in a poll completed this week, were in favor of the Minneota Businessmen's Association hospital project. In the survey taken, 245 of the 260 women contacted were in favor of building a hospital here. Two women were definitely against the project. Twelve women expresses indifference in regards to the hospital and one refused to comment.

Local boy, girl
staters selected
The local American Legion and the Auxiliary announced the selections of the local boy and girl selected to attend the Minnesota Legion and Auxiliary Boy and Girl Staters this summer. The two, both juniors at the local school, are Tom Traen, son of Mr. and Mrs. Anton Traen of Taunton, and Heidi Johnson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Johnson of rural Minneota. Alternates are Joseph Bottelberghe, son of Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Bottelberghe of Minneota, and Linda Larson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wendell Larson of Minneota.

Topnotchers cast win
district 4-H one-act play
The Nordland Topnotchers, with their play "A Date for Bobby Sox", won the district 4-H one-act play contest which was held here last week. Members of the Topnotchers' cast were: Jim Myhre, Phyllis Heggeseth, Sylvia Smith and Kevin Peterson. Second place in the contest went to the Westerheim Flashing Stars.

Area townships elect
officials; set levies
Residences of townships in this area conducted their annual meetings Tuesday and elected officials and set their tax levies for the coming year. In Burton Township, Allan Josephson was re-elected to a supervisor's office for a three-year term. James Pridal was re-elected as clerk. Nordland Township re-elected Alvin Smith as clerk, and Stanley Johnson was elected justice of the peace. Joe Schreiber was re-elected supervisor in Eidsvold Township, with Joseph Rabaey elected as clerk. Westerheim Township elected James Kompeline as supervisor and re-elected Arnold Hennen as clerk. In Island Lake Township, Ronald Peterson was re-elected supervisor and Lawrence Stelter was elected clerk. Louis Van Dorpe was re-elected supervisor in Grandview Township and George DeSutter was re-elected clerk. Swede Prairie voters named Mike Gunlogson as supervisor and named Eldon Applewick as clerk and justice of the peace.

Students compete at
Science Fair in Mankato
Minneota High School students became the first group of Minneota seventh-graders to participate in the Southwest Minnesota Regional Science and Engineering Fair at Mankato State University on March 15. Mike Belaen and David Wambeke received a purple ribbon for their project, "Mystery Metal", and will be attending the State Science Fair in Duluth in April. Nick Breyfogle and Kevin Janiszeski won a blue ribbon for their project, "Bread Mold."

School board filing
to close March 25
There are two seats open on the Minneota School Board, currently filled by board president Tom Nomeland and board clerk Christy Brewers. Both terms are for four years. Nomeland and Brewers have the opportunity to re-file for the board and it is hoped that will again do so
