Time is now to
make investments
B.B. Gislason returned from Canby where he was on Monday for business connected with some land deals. Gislason reports that the land business will soon begin to pick up and that this is the time to make profitable investments. Gislason also said that you can find all kinds of investments now that they are very desirable. The only problem is finding enough money.

Modern Woodmen camp holds meeting in Legion
The Modern Woodmen camp held its first social meeting in its new quarters, the old Legion Hall, on Tuesday evening. The Legion Hall had been papered and fixed up and now presents a very inviting appearance. Cards, chess and checkers were the games that occupied the attention of the members. There was also a very fine lunch served. About 40 members were present.

Red Cross drive goal
in Minneota is $700
Mrs. Harold Friend, chairman of the Red Cross drive for the Minneota branch of the American Red Cross, said this week that the drive for funds in Minneota will be held Saturday, March 8. The quota for this branch, which includes Nordland and Westerheim Townships, has been set at $700. The Lyon County goal has been set at $5,537. Frank Josephson is the chairman in Nordland Township, Julian Gislason is chairman of Westerheim Township. In Taunton, the goal is set at $135, with Mrs. John Bertemes the chairman, and in Ghent, the goal is $225 with Mrs. Robert DeRoode the chairman.

Hospital donations hit $28,400;
drive continues
Donations for erection of a hospital in Minneota hit $28,400 Thursday morning, members of the Minneota Businessmen's Association reported. Included in this amount were some donations in the rural areas. The drive for funds in townships and villages have not officially started, although some work has been done. Precinct chairmen and their assistants have been busy the past few days completing their organizations and making plans for the campaign.

Creamery here had
best year in history
Stockholders of the Minneota Cooperative Creamery Company, meeting the Legion Hall on Wednesday afternoon, learned that a total of $8,342.88 will be distributed as patrons' equity reserve for last year, the best year in the creamery's history. Orval Orsen and Ed Traen were re-elected to the board of directors at the meeting, which was attended by a good crowd. Speakers at the meeting were Otto Christensen, Land O'Lakes fieldman; Frank White, president of the Minnesota Farm Bureau; and Ben Zachariason of the Land O'Lakes field service.

Callens qualifies
for state wrestling
Richard Callens, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Callens of Minneota, will be wrestling in the state tournament on Thursday after winning the 98-pound division in the section tournament last Saturday in Montevideo. After holding his first three opponents scoreless, Callens, a junior, defeated Pat Botsford of Marshall 11-8 in the championship. The state meet will be held at Williams Arena in Minneapolis.

Borson re-named
to M-G-T board
Albert Borson was re-named to the board of directors of the Minneota, Ghent and Taunton Cooperative Oil Company when stockholders of that firm met for their annual meeting in the Legion building here Tuesday afternoon. Borson, a veteran of the board, was elected to a three-year term. Donald Boerboom was re-elected president of the board. Borson was re-elected vice president and Norbert Lanners was re-named secretary/treasurer. Other members of the board are Walter Gillund and Paul Myrvik.

Five wrestlers to
compete at state
Kris Fier, Peter Janiszeski, Kurt Fier, John Myhre and Scott Fiers all qualified for the Class A individual state wrestling tournament. Kris Fier, the defending state champion, will take a 20-1 record into state at 112 pounds; Janiszeski (21-11), who did not wrestle last year, qualified at 125 pounds; Kurt Fier (31-2), Kris's brother, will compete at 130 pounds; Myhre (22-9) qualified at 145 pounds; and Scott Fier (26-5), fourth at state a year ago, will wrestle at 160 pounds.

School gets $50,000
grant from US WEST
The Minneota Public School has received a check for $50,000 from US WEST Communications to help fund a program to build a telecommunications network linking 35 classrooms, a multimedia lab and two computer labs. The grant will also include the purchase of 16 computers for the multimedia lab and four portable computers for a pilot mini-lab program. If the mini-lab concept is successful, the school district will fund three additional mini-labs.
