Boys fined $3 each
for shooting pigeons
Three local teenage boys were hauled up in municipal court before Judge Seals last Tuesday. The boys were charged with shooting pigeons. The boys pleaded guilty and the judge fined them three dollars apiece, plus costs.

Father Stewart back
from trip to Ireland
Father W.J. Stewart returned Saturday from his vacation which he spent at his old home in Ireland. He traveled a good deal while over there and has gathered much information regarding the state of affairs in the island. He says the conditions over there are deplorable beyond anything that we have any idea of.

Santa to miss
"Santa Claus Day"
Santa Claus will not be able to be present on "Santa Claus Say" in Minneota on Saturday, Dec. 15. According to a message received by L.R. Denno, secretary of the Minneota Business Association, Santa stated that he would be unable to be here on that day, but suggested that the MBA put on a free movie for the children in the community. The Joy Theatre will show "Cheyenne Wildcat", a thrilling western picture, twice on Saturday.

Buying of Christmas gifts is well underway in Minneota, merchants here say, and it is reported that a large number of gifts have been bought during the past month to be laid away until Christmas. Some lines are not as complete as before the war, but stocks in stores here are in better shape than any year since the war began, this is especially true of toys, where some metal is again in evidence.

No one wants to
be Justice of Peace
Despite the fact that 33 Minneotans received votes for the position of Justice of Peace, the village was still without a Justice. H.F. Burdorf, who received the largest number or votes, has declined the "honor" of serving as Justice, and council members were making the rounds to find a man to take the position. P.M. Berg, Minneota Justice of Peace for the past 40 years, moved to Marshall in early November and there has been no replacement since then.

Merritt receives
Army Bronze Star
Army Specialist Five Roderick W. Merritt, 25, the son of Dr. and Mrs. W.W. Merritt of Minneota recently received the Bronze Star Medal in South Vietnam, according to information received from the Army. Spec. Merritt earned the award for outstanding meritorious service as a finance clerk with the Army's 23rd administration company near Chu Lai in South Vietnam.

Tracy in Jamboree
The Minneota Vikings were defeated 44-21 by the Tracy Scrappers as a part of the fifth annual Jamboree here last Saturday evening. The Vikings made only 25 percent of their shots. Doug Spanton with eight points and Ken Byrne with seven led Minneota. No one else has more than two points for the Vikings.

City Council approves
library name change
The Minneota City Council on Monday evening approved the changing of the name of the Minneota Library. The library, which had been unofficially known as the Minneota Public Library, has now officially been renamed the J.H. and Freida Geiwitz Public Library. The action occurred at the regularly scheduled meeting. Mayor Paul Larson voted against the name change.

Community Band shares
holiday cheer at Manor
The Minneota Community Band, under the direction of John Voit, stopped at the Minneota Manor Health Care Center on Monday evening and shared some Christmas music with the residents, family and friends. A good crowd of listeners was on hand for the mini concert in the new wing of the building. Those entertaining the residents were: Darrel Anderson, Greta Murray, Stacey Voit, Linette Nelson, Chris Shuckhart, Neil Bot, John Voit, Val Lundquist, Gayle VanVooren, Darwin Dyce and Wendy Sarazyn.
