Friday is National Poppy Day

Dear Editor,

It is that time of the year again! This Friday, May 22, is National Poppy Day. The red poppy is the nationally recognized symbol of sacrifice worn by American's since World War I to honor those who served and died for our country in all wars. It reminds Americans of the sacrifices made by our veterans while protecting our freedoms. By wearing a poppy, we honor those who have worn our nation's uniform.

This year, our poppy distribution, which raises funds for disabled veterans, military personnel, and their families is different due to the coronavirus pandemic and public gathering restrictions. When you venture out, please look for donation cans and poppies in the following Minneota businesses: Brad's Market, Gislason Ace Hardware, Minneota Building Materials, and AgPlus Convenience Store. We thank these businesses for making poppies available this year!

Honor the fallen and support the living!
