The Chief’s View
Fireworks are fun but they are also extremely dangerous to children. Please don't let your children use or light fireworks this Fourth of July. It is best to take your children to a professional show vs. taking them to the emergency room.
Be respectful of your neighbors as you celebrate the Fourth of July. Many people have to wake up early to go to work and need a good night's sleep. Please plan on having your fireworks done by 10 p.m., along with the music turned down.
(1) Remember: All the good fireworks from South Dakota are illegal in Minnesota and it would be a shame to lose them and get a ticket because the cops were called to your home for loud noise after 10 p.m.
(2) Every year people lose a hand, finger, or eye in a fireworks incident. Don't let this be you or your kids.
(3) Have fun, but remember that alcohol and drama are siblings and where you find one you often find the other messing things up.
(4) Dogs, people with anxiety, people with mental health concerns, combat veterans, and some cops don't do well with fireworks. Talk to your neighbors before you light the first match. If they are good with it, invite them over. It is unlikely for someone to call the cops and complain when they are already at the party.
