A fire broke out Friday morning about 8 a.m. at the Dennis Buysse turkey farm north and east of Minneota just off County Road 10.
The barn was completelydestroyed. However, there were no turkeys in the barn at the time of the fire.
Fire Departments on the scene included Minneota, Ghent, Taunton and other area departments. Fireman Brad Linehan of Minneota walked past the structure after the roof had fallen in (top, right).
According to Dennis Buysse, "We were just going to place turkey chicks in that building today."
Dean Buysse indicated it may take as long as August to reconstruct the barn.
"This was one of our nicest barns," he said. According to Dean Buysse, the chicks that were on the way will have to be re-routed to another barn but he wasn't sure of the location at this time.
"Thank goodness nobody was in the barn," said Dennis Buysse. "Everything had been turned off and the heating was on low," he said.
"I'm anxious to find out just what caused the fire," said Dean Buysse.
According to Minneota Fire Jeff Sussner, the fire was put out but the smoke hampered continued firefighting. "There's not much to do but to turn it into rubble," he said.
The building has now been pulled down at this time and Dennis Buysse said, "It went fast. There wasn't much else we could do."
