Creating a Merry Christmas for others

Christmas Angels has providing support for a people in need help them find joy at Christmas time.

In Minneota, Christmas Angels got a big boost from the North Pole Extravaganza this year in the amount of $835 collected at the North Pole event plus donations and other funds to bring the amount to about $1,000.

“Some families want to give but stay anonymous,” said Jan Faris, organizer of the North Pole Extravaganza. While Santa Claus and many vendors draw people to Minneota to shop, the North Pole Extravaganza always includes a fundraiser to help others.

Because the organization of the Extravaganza is a big job, Faris called on college student Brooke Sorensen to help. “I wanted to do a service project through my theology class,” said Sorensen.

“Brooke was a big help because there was a lot of calling and organizing to do,” said Faris.

“Jan (Faris) hooked me up with Brooke,” said Amber Rodas, who organizes the fund drive for the Christmas Angels. Faris said she was, “Very pleased with everything,” and the recent North Pole Extravaganza appeared to be a big hit. It was very well attended in several locations across the community.

“And the local businesses seem to have done well, too.”

“I know Shirley Gladis at her new store was very happy with the way the day went.” “It was a banner day for her,” Faris said.

Also, helping out by donating some photos for the event was Moon Photography. “FCCLA made roughly $170 plus (plus more at their bake sale) on the BBQ/pie social profits,” said Faris.

“I don’t know what I would have done without them. They did me a big service to serve the meal at the Minneota Community Center.” “Christmas Angels fundraising has gone very well this year,” said Rodas.

The money from the North Pole Extravaganza will be used for food for the families.

According to Rodas, there were 57 students enrolled in program and they raised $1,034 this year and they are helping 24 families.

All 24 families have been sponsored by community members.

“Special Thanks to the Northpole Extravaganza and it’s vendors who donated to silent auction plus Moon Photography, Brad’s Market and Community Members and locale business for their continued support,” said Rodas.
