Voit first in St. Clair speech meet

The Minneota Speech team competed virtually at the St. Clair Cyclone Spectacular this past weekend with five competitors finishing in the top six in their respective category.
"This is not a meet on our ‘normal’ tournament calendar, so it was fun for the speakers to see new competition and new judges," said Minneota coach Kim Gades. "The tournament was divided into Varsity and Novice competition."
The Vikings had 12 entries in the meet, while three of those — sixth-graders Nolan VanKeulen, Ava Panka, and Addison Buysse — were competing "live" for the first time this season.
In the Varsity Division, Joe Voit placed first in Extemporaneous Speaking. Thomas Belaen was awarded second place for Storytelling. Emma Lipinski was sixth in Great Speeches and Katie Walerius was sixth in Original Oratory.
In the Novice Division, Addison Buysse placed fourth in Humorous.
Also competing at the meet were: Cora Fischer, Tristan Bierschenk, Reagan Bierschenk, Joey Clark, and Wyatt Pohlen.
Minneota competes again on Saturday in the Russell-Tyler-Ruthton Virtually Live Tournament.
