Vikings win Redwood Valley meet; Pohlen 1st in Discussion

Despite having a small contingent of speakers, Minneota came up big again on Saturday, placing first in the Small School division at the Redwood Valley Speech Meet in Redwood Falls.
Wyatt Pohlen placed first in Discussion and also was sixth in Extemporaneous Speaking to lead the way for the Vikings.
Pohlen, a sophomore, has been steadily becoming a strong speaker for the Vikings’ team since joining in sixth grade. This is the first time he has placed first in any category.”
“The Discussion this year is ‘Global Environmental Issues: What is the condition of our planet?’ and then get a different sub-topic each week,” said Pohlen. “One week we might be told we are on the city council or the head of a company and, after giving us some time to research our sub-topic, we sit at a round table and discuss the sub-topic.”
Joe Voit was third in Extemporaneous Speaking, while Joey Clark was fourth in Storytelling, Cora Fischer was fifth in Great Speeches, and Noah Harms was fifth in Humorous.
Minneota’s next speech meet is scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 25 at the Marshall High School
