Boxelder Bug Days chairman Scott Josephson presented Loralee Miller with the Good Neighbor award during Boxelder Bug Days.

Miller is 2021 Good Neighbor

Designed logo for annual event in town for 26 years

For 26 years, Loralee Miller designed the Town and Country Days and later Boxelder Bug Days logos that were used for t-shirts, posters and promotions.
For her dedication to the town's annual event, she was the recipient of the 2021 Frank Josephson Boxelder Bug Days Good Neighbor Award.
"It was very nice," Miller said about being recognized. "But it was kind of embarrassing, too. There are many others I can think of that deserve this more than I do."
Miller received a plaque from Boxelder Bug Days chairman Scott Josephson on the main stage in Bug Square Saturday following the queen coronation. She was also featured in the Grand Parade on Sunday afternoon.
“I thought this year's parade was one of the best around," she said. "It was bigger than normal and was very well organized."
Josephson said the committee wanted to honor Miller for her longtime work with the town's annual event.
"I don't think a lot of people realize that she was the first designer of our logo and she designed them for that many years," Josephson said. "She started when it was called Town & Country Days."
Josephson also noted that Miller's designs would reflect something that occurred that particular year.
"When we had flooding one year she designed the logo with bugs in a boat," he said. "And one winter when we had a lot of snow, Loralee designed the logo with bugs in a snow scene."
Each year, the number of bugs on the design reflect the year, from 1 to 10.
"That was Loralee's idea and we are still doing that each year," Josephson said.
There was one bug on the design this year because the year ended in one.
Miller, an accomplished artist, grew up in Lake Benton and has lived in Minneota the past 56 years. She and her husband Stan celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary this spring. They have five children and nine grandchildren.
Loralee was a paraprofessional in the elementary school for over 20 years.
