Local Girls Scouts troop formed

10 members to begin selling cookies Feb. 15

Bring on the cookies! After being on hiatus for several years, Minneota has a Girl Scouts troop again.

Julie Pohlen organized the local Girl Scouts Troop 37814, which features 10 girls from Kindergarten to 3rd grade. “We are excited to start selling Girl Scouts cookies from Feb. 15 to March 15,” said Pohlen, the troop leader.

“We are working on selling cookies in local businesses.”

Pohlen’s decision to get the organization going again stemmed from her second-grade daughter, Addyson, looking for an activity.

“I was in Girl Scouts, so I looked into it and decided to start one in Minneota,” Pohlen explained. “We had our first meeting in November.”

The mothers of the girls in the troop are helping Pohlen out.

One of the first things the Girl Scouts did was to bring Christmas gifts and sing carols to the residents of the Minneota Manor.

“We are now workings on our first badge on Recycling, Reducing and Reusing,” Pohlen noted. The Girl Scouts meet at 6:30 p.m. on the first Monday of each month at the Knights Hall.

The Troop 37814 members are: Avery Knutson, Avery DeRoode, Kaitlyn Gorecki, Stella Gorecki, Jules Gossen, Cami Nielsen, Kalli Nielsen, Addyson Pohlen, Eva Skorczewski, Brisbyn Traen and Violet Vlaminck.

There will be a designated night to sign up to join the Girls Scouts again in the fall.
