Local FFA earn high honors at state fair

Minneota had some remarkable finishes at the Minnesota State Fair FFA Judging this past week. Minneota graduate and South Dakota State Sophomore Heidi Guttormsson won first place and Reserve Champion for her Black Faced Market Lamb-Class 2.

Joshua Schuelke earned a Class 3, First Place and Champion Dairy Market Goat. And Grady Moorse was the Overall Top Individual during the Dairy Judging Contest.

Moorse was part of the Dairy Judging team that included Brooke Moorse, Logan Schuelke and Josh Schuelke. The team finished fourth overall.

Here are how the local FFA members did at the state fair:

Market Dairy Goat: Logan Schuelke, Class 2, ninth; Grady Moorse, Class 3, seventh; Brooke Moorse, Class 3, fifth; Josh Schuelke, Class 3, First and Champion Dairy Market Goat.

Sheep: Heidi Guttormsson, Black Faced Market Lamb-Class 2, First and Reserve Champion Lightweight Market Lamb. Carly Van Keulen, Black Faced Market Lamb-Class 8, tenth;Troy Van Keulen, Black Faced Market Lamb-eighth; Dylan Vlaminck, Black Faced Market Lamb-Class 4, 21st; Rachel Vlaminck, Black Faced Market Lamb-Class 5, eight and Black Faced Market Lamb-Class 9, 12th; Jodi Buysse, Black Faced Market Lamb-Class 5, 15th.

Dairy Judging: Team of Grady Moorse, Brooke Moorse, Logan Schuelke and Josh Schuelke, Fourth. Overall Top Dairy Individual: Grady Moorse.
