Library to host Tails & Tales Summer Reading Program

Stuffed Animal Weekend to kick off event from June 5-8

The Minneota Pubic Library has many interesting and fun things planned for its Tails & Tales Summer Reading Program that runs from June 1 to July 31.
One of the exciting events in store is a Stuffed Animal Weekend Sleepover from June 5-8.
"It's been around for a while in other libraries," said Minneota Librarian Gail Perrizo about the Stuffed Animal Weekend. "I heard about it when I had a Zoom meeting with other librarians. I think it's a really cute idea."
Kids are asked to bring one of their favorite stuffed animals to the library by noon on Saturday, June 5. The stuffed animal will stay at the library over the weekend and can then be picked up on Tuesday, June 8 (the library is closed on Mondays).
"I'm hoping a lot of people will participate," Perrizo said. "The library wasn't open last year for the beginning of summer because of COVID so we weren't able to have Story Hour or anything. I'm hoping people will join in this year."
Story Hour will have various guest readers each week.
The library staff will take photos of your stuffed animal and also make bookmarks for the children to use with all the books that they read from June 1 to July 31. The pictures will be posted in the library.
The goal set for the kids is to read for at least 40 hours during the Summer Reading Program. For every five hours read, the child will receive a prize. If they complete the 40-hour goal, they will be eligible for a grand prize drawing to be held at the library at 5 p.m. on July 31.
Books must be chosen to fit the reader's individual level for those participating in the Summer Reading Program. Readers must keep a reading log, initialed by a parent, and turn it in to a member of the library staff. Reading logs are available at the library.
Every Wednesday during the Summer Reading Program, the library will hold Story Hour and Craft Night from 6:30-7:15 p.m. There will also be a guest reader that they can make a craft together with. Everyone who attends the Wednesday Story Hour will also get their name entered in the grand prize drawing.
