Holiday lighting contest gains steam
When the Mascot proposed its idea of hosting a Christmas Lighting Contest, we never thought it would "light" up the eyes of so many people.
The contest will be held on the weekend of Dec. 19-20 for city and rural homeowners from Minneota, Ghent and Taunton.
This event is free for any individual or family who want to be included in the contest. Decorate your home, trees, property, garage, barn, silo or anything else.
An ad appearing in this issue can be filled out with your name, address and phone number and dropped off at the Mascot of mailed to: Minneota Mascot, P.O. Box 9, Minneota, MN 56264. Or register by email to: firstname.lastname@example.org.
First place will be $500 worth of prizes, while second place will be $250 in prizes and third place $100 in prizes. If more sponsors become available, we will include a fourth and fifth place prize package, too.
All prizes are being donated by local businesses and individuals in an overwhelming positive response to the contest. There has already been several prizes donated, including a 193-piece tool set, a red wood-sided wagon, holiday decor, framed prints, coffee maker, a frozen turkey, homemade pie, gift certificates, gift baskets, apparel, and much more.
Registration deadline is Dec. 14. A map of all of the registered places will be printed in an upcoming Mascot in order to make it easier for anyone interested in viewing holiday lights.
We can all use a little cheer after a trying 2020 year. Let's light up Minneota, Ghent and Taunton for all to enjoy.
