HENNEN, LOYSON ADVANCING TO FCCLA NATIONALS
Kate Hennen and Kylee Loyson received top honors at the State Conference of Family, Career and Community Leaders (FCCLA) recently and advanced to the National Convention in San Diego in late June.
A total of 10 Minneota girls attended the State FCCLA Convention at the Mall of American Huntington Bank Rotunda in Bloomington.
Hennen, a junior, and Loyson, a freshman, teamed up in the Hospitality and Tourism STAR event category to earn Gold for their Bin, Bed and Breakfast project.
"They did an outstanding job with their project," said Minneota FCCLA Advisor LeaAnne Bot. "All the girls did a great job."
Their project involves developing a business and they refurbished a grain bin into a bed and breakfast with multi levels.
Hennen, the current local and Southwest Area Region President, was selected as the 2022-2023 State Officer Vice President of Public Relations. Loyson, a current local officer, was selected to serve as 2022-2023 President of the Southwest Area Region.
Jaelin Anderson, a freshman, earned Gold and is a national alternate in the Professional Presentation category.
Other Minneota FCCLA members to compete and earn Gold designations were sophomores Grace Hennen, Faith Myhre and Dakoda Hennen in Everyday Equations; and sophomore Ella Johnson in Show Me. Sophomore Kylie Sterzinger earned a Silver designation in Everyday Equations.
FCCLA members, along with Minnesota FCCLA advisor LeaAnne Bot, attended workshops with an engaging technology session about issues facing teens today such as career choices and no texting while driving.
Speakers included Joe Schmit from KSTP-TV, Steve Culbertson from Youth Service America, First Lady Gwen Walz, who is a former State FCCLA officer. Speakers challenged FCCLA students to do service for others and to think globally and for their communities.
The FCCLA students also enjoyed the Minnesota Twins home opener and Nickelodeon Universe private event as part of their conference registration.
Minnesota FCCLA chapters take advantage of FCCLA programs and develop leadership skills to prepare them for their multiple adult roles of family member, wage earner, and community leaders.
The mission of FCCLA is to promote personal growth and leadership development through Family and Consumer Sciences education. Focusing on the multiple roles of family member, wage earner, and community leader, members develop skills for life through: character development, creative and critical thinking, interpersonal communication, practical knowledge, and career preparation.
