County Hits new heights
The Lyon County Historical Museum in Marshall is commemorating the 150th anniversary of Lyon County as much as possible during the coronavirus pandemic of 2020.
"Because we aren't able to hold a lot of the events we planned for the anniversary, we will celebrate it in 2021, too," said Jennifer Andries, Executive Director of the Lyon County Museum.
Andries and Collections Manager Paul Evanson of the museum staff were on hand with several members of the press at the Marshall Airport on Saturday as a Cessna 182 plane piloted by David McCandless of Council Bluffs, IA flew an 80-foot commemorative banner across the county, which took over three hours. The company McCandless owns has been flying banners for the past 72 years.
Lyon County, in conjunction with the Lyon County Historical Museum, will work with schools in Lyon County to have students sign the banner over the course of the upcoming year.
"We will display the banner at the Lyon County Fair next year," said Andries. "After that, the banner will be preserved at the museum."The Lyon County Historical Museum will have a temporary 150th anniversary display and show videos and online programs commemorating the anniversary. A Lyon County images book is currently on sale at the museum, as well as commemorative t-shirts.
