Cast set for fall musical
When Aubree Cheadle was deciding on a fall musical, she felt Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat would make a good choice.
"It's such a fun show that I've been wanting to do for a while," said Cheadle, who will be directing her fourth musical (she has also directed two plays) at Minneota High School. "Knowing the kids we have in this group, it seemed like a great fit for the cast that we have."
Auditions for Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat began the week following Labor Day and rehearsals got underway on Sept. 13.
Joe Voit is playing the part of Joseph. Emma Lipinski is the narrator and sings throughout the show and is featured in the Prologue and Pharaoh's Story.
"Kids were given a spot to indicate role preferences on the audition form," Cheadle explained. "I take their interests and preferences into account, but ultimately I cast the show based on who would be the best to play each role."
There will six students featured singing the leads in their own songs, as well as several other students with smaller solos throughout the performance. Those performing lead solos are Voit (Any Dream Will do and Close Every Door), Joseph Verschelde (The Song of the King, an Elvis-impersonation-style song), Autumn Dovre (One More Angel in Heaven), Brooke Moorse (Benjamin Calypso), and Sylvia Rabaey (Those Canaan Days).
"We are using a unit set for this show that will stay on the stage for the duration of the show and is versatile to serve many different scenes," Cheadle noted. "We will move smaller props on and off to indicate different scenes."
Cheadle is confident the audience will enjoy the popular musical, which is another reason why she chose this particular one.
"The story and music in this show are a lot of fun to watch," said Cheadle. "It features many different styles of music, from western to disco, and Elvis to calypso. The show is silly and fun and is great for the whole family to enjoy."
Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcost will be shown Nov. 19 and 20 at 7 p.m., and Nov. 21 at 2 p.m.
