15 FCCLA students earn trip to state conference

Minneota members to compete in 9 STAR Event categories

At the Regional STAR (Students Taking Action with Recognition) Event competition last Wednesday, Minneota’s 15 FCCLA competitors all earned gold or silver to advance to the state conference competition in March.
Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) is a nonprofit national career and technical student organization for young men and women in Family and Consumer Sciences education.
The State Conference in a comprehensive leadership conference featuring opportunities for members to share their STAR Event projects and learning, to learn leadership skills and to explore career opportunities and give service.
The Minneota students in grades 9-12, competed in nine different categories, including Career Investigation, Entrepreneurship, Fashion Design, Focus on Children, Food Innovations, National Programs in Action, Nutrition and Wellness, and Professional Presentation.
Those participating can enter as an individual or team.
Earning gold from Minneota were:
Kaci Callens, senior, Gold in Career Investigation. Kaci took several career assessments and researched careers in Business Management.
Samara Sumerfelt, junior, Gold in Career Investigation. Samara took several career assessments and researched careers in Elementary Education.
Faith Myhre, junior, Gold in Entrepreneurship. She developed a business plan for a residential cleaning business.
Jewelz Vierstraete, junior, Silver in Entrepreneurship. She developed a business plan for a jewelry business. Cora Fischer, junior, Silver for Fashion Design. Cora designed a fashion line of high-end professional women’s clothing and designer label.
Jaelin Anderson, sophomore, Silver for Focus on Children. Jaelin developed and taught a lesson plan for junior high school students on the dangers of vaping.
Trinity Kirschbaum, junior, Silver for Focus on Children. She developed and taught a lesson plan for elementary school students on how to recognize and deal with a variety of emotions.
Lydia Coequyt, sophomore; Madison Hennen, freshman; Ella Johnson, junior; Gold for Food Innovations. These three girls teamed up to develop a variety of three different cookies low in sugar through extensive lab testing and sensory evaluation.
Kylie Sterzinger, junior, Gold for National Programs in Action. Kylie developed a community service project to connect with residents in a nursing home.
Kate Hennen, senior, and Kylee Loyson, sophomore; Gold for Nutrition and Wellness. This duo developed a nutrition and wellness plan for a family, including several weeks of menu items to meet specific goals.
Ryanna Waldner, junior, Gold for Professional Presentation. Ryanna developed a presentation focusing on the incidence and health concerns of eating disorders.
The FCCLA State Conference will be held on March 26-28 in Minneapolis. From there, participants will be judged and can advance to the FCCLA National Conference July 2-6 in Denver, CO.
