Sensations looking to feed off strong finish from last season
The Canby/Minneota Sensations dance team, which opens the season with a competition on Saturday, Dec. 10 at Renville County West, has 15 members on its High Kick team and eight on the Jazz team.
This year’s team has only five seniors total on the High Kick and Jazz teams, but head coach Shauna Vernlund is optimistic the team will continue to improve.
“Last year was a good season for us,” she said. “Our kick improved a lot from the previous season.”
The Sensations’ Kick team placed third out of 10 teams in the Camden Conference and was fifth out of 11 teams in Section 3A.
“This year, we hope to improve as a team in both High Kick and Jazz with goals to improve the scored all across the board and place higher than last season. It will take a lot of hard work and determination, but we are ready.”
Vernlund will be assisted by Jenna Borstad and Kalley Yost. The captains this year are Kaitlyn Ludwikowski, Emma Vernlund, Paige Viessman and Kylie Sterzinger for High Kick, and Ludwikowski and Vernlund for Jazz.
“We have a couple of fun dances this year, especially with our kick dance team,” said Coach Vernlund. “We can’t wait to show and compete with them this season”.
