Happy New Year

Before we leave 2018, perhaps it’s not a bad idea to look back on the year and see what good things happened:

1. Breast Cancer deaths fell by 39 percent. The lives of 322,600 women were saved.

2. Nearly 1.2 billion more people have gained access to electricity around the world.

3. More voters went to the polls during a mid-year U.S. election than ever before.

4. A Thai boys’ soccer team, trapped in a cave during seasonal flooding, were all rescued after 18 days and multiple rescue attempts.

5. Immigrant children separated from their parents during the crackdown on immigration between the United States and Mexico were released to their parents.

6. Americans across the country celebrated the presidency of George H. W. Bush after he passed away.

7. People across America enjoyed the 2018 Winter Olympics held in South Korea. (Many Americans didn’t know they liked curling until they saw it on TV).

8. In June, a climbing raccoon was seen on a Minnesota skyscraper. As he crawled upward, he captured the hearts of the nation.

9. The Boston Red Sox won the World Series in baseball and more people than ever watched the event.

10. The Minnesota Miracle. Minnesota Viking Stefon Diggs caught a pass that didn’t see possible when he caught it, avoided the defender, who fell down, and Minnesota beat New Orleans in the semi-final playoff game. It would have been easier to find the 10 most awful events of 2018. The year is coming to a quick end. Like always, we’ll watch the big ball fall in New York City on New Year’s Eve, and we’ll hope and pray for better times in 2019. Above All .... HAVE A HAPPY NEW YEAR!

LAUGH A LITTLE: Holiday jokes What do snowmen order at fast food restaurants” Answer: An iceberg-er and fries. What do snowmen do when they’re not feeling well? Answer: Take a chill pill. What do you call a snowman in July? Answer: A puddle. Where do snowmen go to Dance? Answer: To snowballs!

THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK: As My Ole Pappy used to say, “Because of you, I laugh a little harder, cry a little less, and smile a lot more.” Ole Pappy knew you to make you feel good. Thanks Ole Pappy!
