What to wear for Halloween

It’s that time of year that’s full of ghosts, goblins, tricks and treats. It’s hard to believe that Halloween is right around the corner! Some folks dive deep into Halloween festivities and others, like myself, are really just interested in the day after Halloween when the candy is on sale.

One of the biggest Halloween traditions is dressing up in costume for parties, trick or treating or just for fun. Some people get really into it spending hundreds of dollars on costumes.

While others play the “last minute” or “cheap” card and put something together using things they already had. I also fall under that category. Two years ago, my friend Emily and I decided we were going to be slightly nerdy and “punny.”

Her costume was called “Oh Deer” and mine “Holy Cow.” More people got the puns than we thought and it was a lot of fun. We were slightly over shadowed with our group because one girl had an elaborate, and pretty awesome, bright lime green gorilla suit.

Another member of the group had a shark costume. There was a time in college when my three roommates and I decided to be “crazy cat ladies.” That was a lot of fun.

Believe it or not, Goodwill has an impressive selection of cat inspired sweaters and a large selection of robes, slippers and plush cats.

As a kid, I remember my mom dressing us up and taking us to our grandparents, neighbors and then a street or two in town.

We always had to take photos is good and bad. It’s good to have those memories but it’s bad that there is photo evidence of those costumes.

I remember going as a princess, a Blue M&M, a witch, a clown and as a cow. The cow costume is still making the rounds for various school dress up days, FFA events and other times when it’s just good to have a cow costume lying around. With Halloween still a few days away, there is still time to find that perfect costume.

According to Google, the top 10 costumes in the U.S. for 2017 are: 1. Wonder Woman; 2. Harley Quinn (A character from DC Comics); 3. Clown; 4. Unicorn; 5. Rabbit; 6. Witch; 7. Mouse; 8. Pirate; 9. Zombie; 10. Dinosaur

Google has a neat website called “Google Frightgeist” that allows you to type in your zip code to see what costumes people are searching for in your area.

According to my search of “56264” the top costumes are: 1. Moana (Disney Princess); 2. Zombie; 3. Witch; 4. Unicorn and 5. Fairy

I thought it was really neat because you can look up places all across the United States to see what their top costumes are.

This weekend, I will be attending a banquet that you are highly encouraged to wear a Halloween costume for. My friend that I am going with said there’s no way he’ll dress up.

Since you receive a discount on your meal if you dress up, I think I can give it a shot.

I’ll be incorporating my new glasses and borrowing a couple shirts to see if it can pass as a costume.

Whether you are a big time fan of Halloween, or just in it for the free and discounted candy, I hope everyone has a little fun!
