‘Team Belgian Waffles’ front & center

What a game on Monday night! I’ll admit it, after a dismal preseason performance, I was a little worried about our Minnesota Vikings.

This is my favorite time of the year with the Twins still playing (hopefully to a play-off run) and the Vikings just getting started. I have been saying for weeks now that I know that the Minnesota Vikings will be at the big game in February.

However, I have never said that they will be playing. Minnesota is hosting the big game and I think it will be a great chance for the Vikings to showcase Minnesota to a national audience.

I was a little annoyed at former Viking Adrian Peterson running his mouth about the Vikings. I was pumped that Vikings quarterback and rookie running back Sam Bradford and Dalvin Cook ruined his “homecoming.”

Besides the Vikings, my other favorite “professional” team is “Team Belgian Waffles.” Who are they? Well, they are a group of all-stars meticulously crafted together to create a championship caliber fantasy team.

Last season, I won our league championship with my “Team Belgian Waffles.”

I was excited to draft my team last week as we added a few more teams to the league. Our fantasy league is just all for fun and glory as we don’t gamble anything but our pride.

Every league has a commissioner that determines rules, scoring and other regulations. In our league, we have two quarterbacks play every week. My brothers rolled their eyes when I said I drafted Viking Sam Bradford.

On Monday night, he had an amazing night and outscored my other quarterbacks handily. According to ESPN’s quarterback ranking, Bradford was the top dog. So far Bradford looks like a good draft pick and I hope that he can have more games like that.

My number one draft pick was Arizona Cardinals’ star running back David Johnson. He was projected to have a stellar season.

With how his quarterback Carson Palmer has been playing, I figured that Johnson would be carrying Arizona on his back. As a fantasy team owner, that would mean he would be a high point scorer and a valuable team asset.

During Arizona’s season-opener in Detroit, the inevitable happened to Johnson with a wrist injury. On Tuesday, it was announced that he would be undergoing surgery and would miss 2-3 months of football at the very least.

It’s too bad because he is a young player that had his season over too early.

What that means for “Team Belgian Waffles” is we’re heading to the waiver wire to hopefully pick up a new team member that can try to replace Johnson. The waiver wire is comprised of players that are undrafted. It lists everyone on rosters so you have to watch for any injured or suspended players.

Because we added more teams to the league, that leaves the cupboard pretty bare to find a replacement.

With it being so early in the season, it’s hard to determine a weekly line-up and potential “gems” on the waiver wire.

As the season goes on, teams start to separate with their quality and talent so it gets a little easier to predict how some players will perform from week to week.

One of the tools I used to help me last year was listening to a football podcast.

The analysts work for the NFL network and make it an interesting podcast to listen to.

There are five people that have different perspectives and are a lot of fun to listen to. They aren’t boring like most people, in my opinion, on different sports shows.

I usually play it when I feed my rabbits and calves and away we go! I’m looking forward to the season and I’m ready for some football!
