Come meet Lotto & Husker on Saturday!

Boxelder Bug Days, something fun for everyone!

It’s hard to believe, but the week of Boxelder Bug Days is here! It’s always the last time for delicious fried fair food from the concessions in Boxelder Bug Square.

I also like to think of it as “the last party of the summer,” too! I had a lot of fun putting together the official Boxelder Bug Days poster and I really enjoy all the folks that walk past the Mascot window to stop and read it!

There are so many great events to attend this weekend, there is something fun for everyone! Many people have volunteered their time to make Bug Days the great event that we have come to know and enjoy.

I have heard many folks talk about how excited they are for the Medallion Hunt and for Carissa Hansen’s Bill Holm presentation.

I remember when I was a sophomore in high school, Bill came in to speak to our English class.

At the time, I had no idea that he was so well known and to be frank, “such a big deal.”

I wish I had gotten a little more out of his visit then I did. I am very excited to visit Bill’s exhibit. I’m corresponded with Carissa a few times and she is very nice and cannot wait to share her findings about Bill’s life with the Minneota community.

For any animal lovers like myself, there are some really great events lined up. First, from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. the Minneota FFA will be holding their annual petting zoo in Veteran’s Park.

One of the nice things about having the petting zoo the week after the state fair is that all the show animals are still in prime condition and most of the fair stuff is usually still not put away.

That makes getting the supplies and animals ready for the petting zoo a breeze. The FFA members have been busy preparing not only the animals, but some educational posters and fun too!

There will be calves there named Lotto & Husker that are super friendly, like to eat and are eager to make some new friends. After living the show life lately, just seeing Gared and I everyday is a little boring to them.

There will be goats there too! Which ones, I’m not sure yet, but they will all be quite friendly and fun to watch. Rabbits are always fun to have and our rabbits RuPaul, London, Craig and Goober will be there.

They all have very different fur and physical traits so they are a must see! Other FFA members will be bringing sheep, chickens, pigs and more so don’t miss it!

The FFA members will be “dividing and conquering” as they will also be selling pizza at the softball complex during Saturday’s softball tournament.

Don’t forget other animal events like the Boxelder Bug Races, the Barrel Races, horses in the parade and the Rainbow Country Carriage Rides on Sunday afternoon!

Make sure to come to Minneota “where everybody knows your name” and enjoy something fun for everyone!
