Dream comes true for Twins fans

As a Minnesota sports fan, it’s always my dream at the beginning of every season to see one of my favorite professional teams, the Vikings and Twins, make it to the championship.

It’s happened once in my lifetime, but I was only a year old for the 1991 World Series, so I don’t really count that one. However, as the years have gone by and the heartaches keep on coming, I’ve lowered my expectations to being happy if my favorite teams make it to the playoffs.

The Minnesota Vikings losing to the Eagles for the chance to play in Minnesota for the big game really did me in.

However, this year’s Minnesota Twins team has restored some of my faith in my snake bitten teams. This has been such a fun season to be a Twins fan.

The Vikings are taking a back seat at the moment, I’m still mad at them for how poorly they played against the Bears.

While the Vikings were stinking up the field on Sunday, the Twins made history as they finished their regular season with the most home runs in Major League Baseball history with 307, narrowly besting the New York Yankees by one run, they had 306.

That’s 307 times that a Twins player rounded the bases with a “bomba.”

Because of all the homeruns hit, Outfielder Eddie Rosario coined the term, “bombas”, which led to this year’s team being called the “Bomba Squad.”

That’s impressive and a lot of fun. Now, the Twins will begin their post-season journey on Friday. However, they play on the MLB Network so I’m not sure how many viewers can actually watch it.

Then, they’ll play on Saturday with the coverage on FS1. The Twins will then return home to play on Monday night and I’m hoping the homefield advantage works for the home team.

Since it’s the best of five series, there may need to be games on Tuesday and Thursday if necessary.

True to form, the Twins drew the New York Yankees. Throughout my lifetime, it seems we always play the Yankees and we can’t ever come out on top. It feels like there is some sort of curse.

The Twins played the Yankees in New York back in May and they actually won at Yankee stadium on my birthday, but lost the series.

Then, the Yankees came to Minnesota in July. That was one of the craziest and most entertaining series I can recall.

There were so many home runs and runs scored in general, it was astounding. The total number of runs scored during those three games was 57!

Like a lot of baseball fans, I’m speculating that this series could be highlighted by an insane number of home runs. As long as they’re bombas, I’ll be pretty happy.

To mark the occasion, it was announced on Monday that the “Homer Hankys” will be making a come back. I only remember seeing them a handful of times, so this is exciting for us younger Twins fans.

I do think for this year’s team though, they should consider calling them, “Bomba Bandana” instead. No matter what happens, this year’s Twins team has been so much fun to watch!

Go Twins and finally beat the darn Yankees!
