75 Years Ago-February 25, 1944

Murray-Breen

Miss Margaret Eileen Breen, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. M. J. Breen and a niece of Mrs. W. C. Ahern of Taunton, and John Butler Murray, of Scanton, PA., were married January 22, at the Church of the Sacred Heart in Honolulu.

McMahon-Swedzinski

Miss Lorraine Swedzinski, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Anton Swedzinski, was united in marriage to William McMahon, son of Mr. and Mrs. William McMahon of Minneota, on Tuesday, February 15, at Sts. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church, Taunton.

Mr. and Mrs. Conrad Broughton are the parents of a girl born on Tuesday, February 15. Mr. and Mrs. Ignatius Culshaw are the parents of a boy born on Friday, February 18. The boy is to be named Thomas Ignatius.

Local Cager makes all-State Team

Twenty-six of Minnesota’s most talented high school basketball players - including Alan Geiwitz of the Minneota high school cage squad - were named members of WCCO’s all- state basketball team of the week last Thursday night.

Honored

Arlysis Jensen, bride-to-be of Lennis Hovland, was honor guest at a bridal shower on Saturday, February 22, at the home of Mrs. Philip Drown.

Baptism

Mark Roger, infant son of Mr. and Mrs. Roger Josephson of Madison, Minn., was baptized on Sunday at St. John’s Lutheran church at Madison. Locals Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Bretschneider and family visited on Sunday at Gary, S.D., and attended the twenty-fifth wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Leo Kloos. The family of Mrs. J.B. Gislason helped her celebrate her 94th birthday on Tuesday at the Nursing Home in Marshall.

Borson Re-Elected

M-G-T Director Albert Borson was re-elected a director of the M-G-T Co-operative Oil Company when that firm held its annual meeting in the Legion building. Members of the board of directors re-named Joe Gislason as president of the co-op. Others who were re-elected officers of the firm were: S. Frank Josephson, vice president; Norbert Lanners, secretary-treasurer. The other member of the board is H.J. Van Keulen.

Qualify for Section Tournament

These Minneota wrestlers will compete at the Section Tournament at Montevideo on Saturday, February 26th. The top two qualifiers in each weight class will advance to the State Tournament next week. They are: Luke DePestel, Bruce Laleman, Peter Janiszeski, Travis Gillund, Jason Fier, Brady VanVooren, Shawn Lozinski, Mike VanHecke, Kevin Fier and Matt Myrvik.

Jaycees donate carnation profits to Hospice

The Minneota Jaycees held its annual carnation sale from February 8-14, which again was a big success. This past week, Jaycee members Mike Downing and Cheryl Schmitz presented Prairie Home Hospice representative Barb Moore with a check for $207.00, the profit realized from this benefit.
