75 Years Ago-November 26, 1943
Mrs. Westdal, 89, mother of 11, buried on Sunday
Funeral services were conducted at St. Paul’s Lutheran church here last Sunday for Mrs. Gudny Westdal, 89, who died at her home in Minneota on Wednesday of last week.
Carl’s Cafe now in new quarters
Carl’s Cafe last Friday opened for business in the new quarters, formerly the Finnegan building. Carl Christianson, proprietor of the restaurant recently purchased the building from Mrs. J. F. Finnegan and he moved into it last week. He has redecorated and remodeled the place. The Christianson Cafe formerly occupied the Myhre building, which is vacant at the present time.
Kockelman-Reinhart
Peter Kockelman, formerly of St. Leo, but now of Fairfax was married to Miss Evelyn Reinhart, also of Fairfax, at St. Andrew’s church there on Wednesday, November 17. Rev. H. Theisen officiated.
Sturm-Sussner
Pfc. Alphonse J. Sturm of Pine Camp, N. Y., second son of Mr. and Mrs. J. G. Sturm of near here, and Miss Ann Sussner, only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Sussner of St. Leo, were married at the St. Leo church at a nuptial mass on Nov. 23. Rev. John Gores officiated at the double-ring ceremony.
50 Years Ago-November 28, 1968
Wrapping servicemen’s gift
Virgil Ufkin, local Legion commander, Mrs. W. J. Dero and Mrs. Wendell Larson were among the first on hand last Thursday night when Legion and auxiliary members started wrapping Christmas gifts for men from this community in the Armed services. The packages, which contained a variety of items, were being mailed to men in this country as well as those overseas.
Awarded trip to 4-H congress
Susan Hytjam, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Olaf Hytjan of Balaton, has been awarded a trip to the 47th National 4-H Club Congress at Chicago. Election Tuesday; no contests here There will be two names on Minneota ballots when voters here go to the polls for the annual village election Tuesday - Harold Schwartz and Byron Rafnson - and two spots on the paper will be vacant - justice of the peace and constable.
Youth to attend U.S. Dairy conference
Michael Moorse has been selected to participate in the fourteenth annual 4-H Dairy Conference, December 5-7, according to Ray Newell, county agricultural agent. Mike, a long-time 4-H member, is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Leo Moorse of Minneota.
Married 50 years
Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Downing of Taunton, who were married 50 years on November 26, were honored guests at an open house noting that event on Sunday.

Mahnomen to be mighty foe in Class C battle
This week the Vikings prepare to take on Mahnomen for the Class C State Title - and know they have their work cut out for them. Thanksgiving dinner shared The Minneota Senior Center had “full house” this past Thursday for the annual Thanksgiving Dinner. Over 150 people gathered for the delicious meal and were later entertained by Bill Holm and Simon Fensom.
Camden Conference award winners
The Camden Conference this week named their Volleyball All-Conference selections. Becky Sharp was named to the first team and Jami Rolbiecki and Rhonda Verschelde were given Honorable Mention status. Sharp, a senior, proved to be a good team leader on this year’s squad with her all-around good floor game. Hitters Rolbiecki and Verschelde are both juniors.
