75 Years Ago-September 10, 1943

Buried Friday

Funeral services were held on Friday, September 3 at Hemnes Lutheran church for Mrs. Betsy Halvorson, pioneer resident of Minneota. She was 76 years of age at the time of her death.

Josephson-Olien

Miss Mary Ann Olien, daughter of Mrs. Andrew Olien of Clarkfield, and John Josephson, son of A. Thorstein Josephson of Minneota, were united in marriage at the First English Lutheran church at Clarkfield on Sunday, September 5, with the Rev. C. O. Bomgren officiating.

New at the Mascot

Julius Locy, who recently returned with his family from Logan, Utah, where he was employed at a U. S. air field, has accepted the position of linotype operator on The Minneota Mascot.

Country News Porter

As Mrs. Schommer and family were returning from Canby Sunday, the car caught fire but slight damage was done.

50 Years Ago-September 12, 1968

Getting acquainted

Ramon Britez, American Field Service student from Paraguay is staying at the Carl Lawrence home during the present school term. He got a chance to get acquainted last week end with the Lawrence’s son Bradley, who has been hospitalized since before the Paraguayan arrived in Minneota. Both are members of the senior class of the Minneota high school.

Wide load comin’ down the road

A storage building, belonging to Donald and Orville Wigness who farm west of Minneota, took up all the road last Friday as it was being moved from a government bin site on the south edge of Cottonwood to the farm a couple of miles from this village. It measures 40 x 100 feet and was moved by a professional mover from Chandler, Minn. The 26-mile trip took the movers eight hours and involved four electric power firms, the Chicago and North Western Railway and three telephone companies. The Wigness brothers will use the building for storing corn. A similar building was moved to the Joe Gislason farm east of town earlier last week and another was to be moved to a farm near Ghent this week.

2.30 inches of rain fall here

Sept. 7, 8 Last weekend brought 2.30 inches rain to this community, rain which spoiled many a Minneotan’s plans for a week end and kept farmers from doing work in the fields.

Anniversary Dance

In honor of Mr. and Mrs. Mike DeCramer’s 25th wedding anniversary there will be a free dance Sunday evening, Sept. 15, at 8 p.m. at Don’s Ballroom in Ghent.

Golden Wedding

Mr. and Mrs. Tom Nomeland of Porter will be honored on their Golden wedding anniversary with an open house at Bethel Lutheran church, Porter, on Sunday, September 22.

25 Years Ago-September 8, 1993

New teachers begin duties

These new faces met students at Minneota High School when classes began on Tuesday. Carla Oerter who is the new Spanish teacher, Sharon Lucas who is the Media Specialist/ Librarian, and Laura Ochry who teaches English for 7th, 8th and 9th graders.

Hennen nears goal line

Neil Hennen is a powerful runner - sometimes taking two and three defenders with him when he carries the ball. As shown in a photo, it sometimes takes one on the leg, one around the middle, and a third to come and assist in bringing down this strong runner. Hennen had a successful night, scoring two touchdowns and a 2-point conversion.

Bed races need entrants

It’s not too late - call today to enter your bed in the bed races for Boxelder Bug Days. The event is scheduled for Saturday, September 11 and will begin at 12:30 p.m. on the street near The Minneota Mascot.
