75 Years Ago-April 2, 1943
Gov. Stassen sets ‘More Pork Week’
April 1 to 7 has been proclaimed “More Pork from Minnesota Week” by Governor Harold E. Stassen, it was announced this week by County Agent F. J. Meade. Minnesota, with over five million hogs on hand January 1 and more than seven million hogs raised last year, ranks among the leading hog producing states in the nation.

Tyrone Power and Joan Fontaine take the leading roles In “This Above All”. This is a love story of two young English people from opposite sides of the tracks, who meet on level terms in the struggle for England’s survival. “The Bells of Capistrano,” Gene Autry’s last picture before entering the armed forces, is a fitting exit to Autry’s brilliant career as America’s favorite cowboy.
Vandalism may cause closing Post Office to public on Sundays
Postmaster W. B. Gislason warns that unless young folks who “hang out” in the post office lobby on Sunday cease the defacement of posters and damaging mailbox locks, he will be forced to keep the lobby closed on Sundays. Free access to the lobby has heretofore afforded boxholders an opportunity to call for their mail which is distributed on Sunday morning.

Two Students win at Science Fair
The junior and senior high school science class attended the regional science fair at Mankato on Saturday, March 30. The two students who won the right to go to the state contest in St. Paul are Ann DeCock, who won on her term paper on the “Structure of the Atom,” and LuAnn Kopka who won on subterranean geology, which was the drawing of an underground map of the region. Second place winners were Francis DeCock, who won on the feasibility of making corn stalks into paper pulp, Elaine Kopka, making a model stone henge, Montey Yeo, tornado machine, John Moorse, effects of polarized light on plant growth and Brent Larson, pictures taken through a microscope with a Polaroid swinger.
Gifts for Faribault hospital
St. Edward’s school students brought gifts to the church to be placed on the altar as a sacrifice to help someone in need and the articles were taken to Faribault State Hospital.
Three winners in District contest
Three local high school students were winners in the speech contest at Marshall last Thursday afternoon and were to go to the regional meet at Montevideo this Wednesday. They are Fraser Geiwitz who won in the humorous interpretation division and Gladys Myhre and Janet Christianson, who took honors in the memorized oratory phase of the contest.
New writer on Mascot staff
Mrs. H. W. (Bud) Tillemans is the new social reporter on the Mascot’s staff and she began her duties on Monday of this week.

Boys’ Staters chosen from Minneota
The 1993 Minneota High School representatives to Boys’ State activities were announced this week. They are: Eric Alleckson, son of Robert and LaVonne Alleckson of Minneota and Nate Welsh, son of Tom and Cindy Welsh of Ghent. The alternatives are: Adam Hagen, son of Ralph and Judy Hagen, and Mike VanHecke, son of Larry and Vicki VanHecke of rural Taunton.
Some evidence found from Dalager break-in
Some of the evidence from the Dalager’s Gas & Grocery break-in Sunday night was recovered in Grandview Township Monday morning. An alert citizen noticed the debris on the road and called the Minneota Police Department.
Speech Team earns first place
The Minneota High School came home with the first place team trophy after their successful day at the Sub-Section meet at RTR on March 27.
