Police warning against unsafe play by youth

Two dangerous practices by the young Minneota people prompted a warning this week by Officer Axel Peterson. Bicycles are not permitted on the sidewalks in the downtown section, for one thing, and riders are asked to obey this regulation for the safety of themselves and pedestrians. Mr. Peterson found a nine-year-old boy shooting a .22-calibre riffle one day this week, accompanied by two smaller children. By taking the firearm and returning it to its proper place, he very likely prevented a tragic accident. He wants parents to watch small children and keep firearms out of their reach.

Ginger Rogers in “Roxie Hart” at Joy

Ginger Rogers excels again as an actress in “Roxie Hart”, a film entirely different from anything she has ever done. She portrays the fame-seeking wife who stands trial for a murder in the interests of publicity. The story is based on the Chicago of 1927 when it actually seemed impossible to get a pretty woman convicted of wrong-doing. Hence, such a far-fetched publicity stunt is considered advisable. Sunday and Monday are the play dates.

Mrs. Ingjaldur Arnason was complimented Sunday afternoon by the Westerheim Ladies Aid on the occasion of her 80th birthday, which fell on July 1. The affair took place at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Gudmundson and was attended by a large number.

Retires from P. O. Position

Jack Finnegan, local insurance man, gave Mrs. Wendell Anderson a bit of blarney last Friday afternoon and thanked her for her cheerfulness of past years when he learned that she was retiring from her job at the local post office — a post she has held since July 1, 1942.Mrs. Anderson, who held the position of assistant to the postmaster when she retired last week, has, through the past 25 years seen prices of “penny” postcards go from one cent up to four cents and recalled that when she began work under the late W. B. Gislason, four trains a day were carrying mail into Minneota.
