Died in Italy

Pvt. Walter Eugene Swanson, son of the Mr. and Mrs. A.J. Swanson, dies in Italy on October 20 of wounds received in action on October 7. He was 37 years old at the time of his death.

Personals

Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Peterson and a daughter, Geraldine, of New Orleans, Louisiana, arrived here on Sunday to visit at the home of Mr. Peterson’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. S.J. Peterson. Sgt. and Mrs. Harvey Hanson of Grand Island, Nebraska, arrived Monday to spend a week at the home of Sgt. Hanson’s parents.

Country News

G.J. Doom, Art Vermeersch, Bill Broughton, Joe Jennen, Ernie Buesing, Harold Opdahl, and Garfield Broughton left from here last Sunday to spend a week deer hunting in the northern part of the state. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Janis and Jim went to Winona Wednesday to spend Thanksgiving with their daughter, Grace, who is a student at St. Theresa’s. Mrs. Roland Byrne left last week for Camp Chaffee, Arkansas, where she will visit her husband.

Local Student First in Speech Meet

Paul Fixen, student at the local high school, was awarded first place in the public speaking contest when District 9 FFA contests were held at Granite Falls November 18. Larry Buysse was awarded fifth place in extemporaneous speaking and David Abels received sixth place in creed speaking.

Scouts Get Awards at Honor Court

Minneota Boy Scouts received various awards during a court of honor held at the public school. Taking part in the ceremonies were Scoutmaster Harold Jackson, Jerry Baugher, and Joseph Dero. Tenderfoot awards were received by Terry Sangl, Randv Sangl, and Lanny Merritt. Second class awards: Paul Geiwitz, Ken Amundson, James Christianson, Mark Stassen, Wade Lamphere, Steve Dero, Kevin Josephson, John Pennings, Richard Christianson, Brent Larson, and Mark Hanson. Merit badges: John Pennings, Mark Hanson, Richard Christianson, Douglas Jackson, Kevin Josephson, and Brent Larson. Patrol and assistant patrol leader badges: Richard Christianson, Paul Geiwitz, Brent Larson, James Christianson, Mark Hanson, and Steve Baugher.

Church Services at St. Paul’s Tonight

A community Thanksgiving service, in which all clergymen and congregations of the village will participate, is to be held at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church tonight. This is the first time that a community Thanksgiving service has been held.

School to Present Two One-act Plays

The Minneota High School Fine Arts Department invites you to their all school play, which will this year feature two one-act plays. Under the direction of Mr. Rob Ross, students in the high school will present “Something Rotten in Denmark” and “The Wishing Tree.”

Football Award Winners

These members of the 1994 Viking Football Team were honored for their outstanding play this season. Receiving Little Sioux Conference Awards were, Jeremy Lozenski, Duane Kockelman, Luke DePestel, Nathan Pohlen, Little Sioux Most Valuable Player Matt Myrvik, Little Sioux Coach of the Year Joel Skillings, Neil Hennen and Academic team members Chris Jeremiason and Bryan Anderson.

APPLEMANIA contest held in Marshall

Minneota Senior Dining Coordinator Joanne Myrvik introduced the guest entertainer for APPLEMANIA, Bill Holm. Holm treats those attended with his gift of piano music.

Winners in GMT Coloring Contest

The GMT (Ghent-Minneota-Taunton) Women of Today would like to congratulate Clayton Byrne of Ghent and Keagan DeSmet of Minneota as the top winners of the Kid’s Week Coloring Contest.
