75 Years Ago-November 17, 1944

Elected in Illinois

Donald C. Teigland, son of Mr. and Mrs. M.A. Teigland of this community, was elected a representative from his home district to the Illinois legislature in the election last week. Mr. Teigland was elected on the Democratic ticket. Donald went to high school here and after graduation attended Augsburg college in Minneapolis. He went to Rock Island in 1936 and has been employed there since that time.

Townsend-Culshaw

Miss Helen Bernadette Culshaw, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. John B. Culshaw, became the bride of Lincoln Townsend, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. L. Townsend, at Ivanhoe on Nov. 8.

Mr. and Mrs. Adolph Hall are the parents of a girl born Nov. 14.

50 Years Ago-November 20, 1969

Corn for Camp Courage

Curtis Eischens, Monte Yeo and Jeff Yeo, members of the local Future Farmers of America chapter, unloaded corn collected last Saturday for Camp Courage. Eleven boys participated in the drive and used four trucks to collect the ear corn. The corn was all shelled and when sold brought in about $168.00.

Minneota Phone Poll Favors EAS, MBA Told

A short, but well-attended meeting of the Minneota Businessmen’s Association was held and during the session members present learned that and extended area service telephone poll conducted here by Northwestern Bell Telephone Co., had met with favorable response. When it does go into effect, people from Minneota will be able to call Marshall without paying a toll but would pay a larger telephone bill. Installing Sprinkler System A sprinkler system which automatically goes into operation in case of fire was installed in Finnegan’s Super Valu here this week.

Brent Larson was one of sixteen carrier boys attending a scholarship luncheon in Minneapolis Saturday, sponsored by the Minneapolis Star and Tribune. He was accompanied by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Larson.

Lions Club Makes Donation

The Minneota Lions Club donated $500.00 to the Minneota Park Board for project use within the city limits. The people present are: Bud Bernardy of the Minneota Park Board, Lions member Ed VanDorpe, Lions Club President Jon Lien, and City Councilman Bill Ufkin.

New Residential Area

Last week water and sewer lines were being dug into the new residential housing addition on East Lyon Street. This week the ground is being leveled and it is already beginning to take shape.

50th Wedding Anniversary

Open house 50th wedding anniversary in honor of Chester and Evelyn Dalager on Saturday, November 19 at American Legion Club, Granite Falls hosted by their children.

Wedding Anniversary

The children and grandchildren of Garfield and Adeline Broughton are hosting a celebration in honor of their 50th wedding anniversary on Sunday, November 27.

Ice Facility Ready

Work has progressed very nicely on the ice skating facility on the northwest corner of the public school grounds. Located just north of the tennis courts, the rink appears to be ready for cold weather. The community has really come together to get this project off the ground, thanks to many people who believed it could be done.

New structure on Minneota’s East Side

Otter Tail Power Company’s substation is nearing completion in Minneota’s Industrial Park. This new power station was erected to better serve the customers in the Industrial Park and the City of Minneota.

HOBY Candidates

Kayla Ahern has been chosen to attend the Hugh O’Brian Youth Foundation Leadership Seminar in the Twin City area. Pat Engels has been chosen as the alternate. The seminar, which was founded by Hugh O’Brian, gives the students more insight into the business world around them.

Vikings Come Short

A handsome State Participant trophy was awarded to the Vikings team following their loss to Chatfield Friday night.
