75 Years Ago-November 10, 1944

William Ningen Killed in Action

Pfc. William Ningen was killed in action on September 19 in Germany, according to word received by relatives in this community.

Junior Class Play

Members of the junior class will present their annual play at the high school auditorium Friday evening of next week, November 17. The title of the play is “What a Life.”

Iver Wollum Sells Business

New owners took possession on Wednesday of the farm implement business in Porter which has been owned and perated by Iver Wollum for the past 32 years. In a deal made several weeks ago the buildings and stock of the concern, one of the largest in the state, were purchased by Page Brothers of Mohall and New Rockford, N.D.

Granary and Machine Shed Destroyed

A large granary, with its contents of grain and seed corn, and adjoining machine shed were completely destroyed by fire at the Ahern brothers farm a mile north of Taunton on Saturday morning of last week.

Sportsmen Sent 34 Pheasants to Vets

Hunters in this community sent 34 pheasants to the fourth annual dinner for disabled veterans in five hospitals in Minnesota. The Minneota Sportsmen’s Club had promised 25 birds for the dinner and when collection was made from members 34 birds were turned in. More than 1,800 pheasants were sent in from hunters throughout the state.

50 Years Ago-November 13, 1969

Teacher hired

In regard to routine matters, the board approved the teaching contract of Walter W. Beesler of Hazelton, North Dakota, to teach chemistry, consumer math, and a section of general science. The position was vacated by the death of Tim Dahlquist in an automobile accident October 10.

End of rough ride

About all that remained undamaged of the Diesel-powered tractor, that pulled a semi-trailer, was the exhaust pipe and the tires after it left Highway 19, east of Marshall and hit a field approach Monday morning of last week. It was driven by Robert Gorecki. Gorecki “rode” the machine until it stopped and escaped from the crash without serious injury.

Ghent Deer Hunters

A group of deer hunters from Ghent brought in six deer last Saturday morning. In the party were Ed Chlebecek and son, Terry, Joe Vandenberghe, Marcus Wignes and sons, John and Robert, and Thomas Gemelke.

25 Years Ago-November 9, 1994

Vikings win Section Title

The victorious Minneota Vikings gathered on the football field to claim the handsome trophy that became theirs after their win over Fulda. It was a time of joy and celebration, as the Vikes won the hard-fought game 26-19. Now on to State Quarterfinals with home field advantage.

Ground breaking for new housing development

Members of the Area Development of Minneota corporation met at the future site of residential housing in Minneota. The area is on East Lyon Street, and will one day be the site of twelve homes. Water and sewer lines are now being laid, with further work to be done in the Spring. The members present are Don Hanson. Kevin Anundson, Jerry Teigland, Bob Nelson, Dr. Scott Josephson, Doug Wallen, and Dana Bartz of Bartz Construction of Marshall.

New warming house put in place

Last Friday afternoon workers placed one of the sections of the new City’s ice skating warming house onto it’s location on the east side of the Minneota elementary school. The “other half” was also brought into position the same way, thus doubling the size of the warming house. The structure was purchased from the City of Marshall and the skating rinks, which will also include a hockey rink, are on land that the City is leasing from the School District.
