75 Years Ago- August 4, 1944

Sons wounded

Two families of this community received word last week that their sons had been wounded in action. John Myhre received a telegram this week that his son, Pvt. Ray Myhre had been seriously wounded in action in France on July 7th. Mr. and Mrs. John Dwire received word that their son, Pvt. Floyd Dwire had been wounded.

Former Minneotan Champ Yukon Bowler

Edgar Mohn, son of Mrs. K. K. Mohn of this place, who is working in the Yukon territory, is doing some great bowling up there. Edgar R. Mohn is the first to reach the 600 mark in league bowling according to the Canby News of Last week.

Vernon Hawley was named manager of the Minneota Cooperative Creamery at a meeting of the board of directors held on Thursday evening of last week. Mr. and Mrs. George Janssen are the parents of a girl born on Saturday, July 29, at a Marshall hospital.

50 Years Ago-August 7, 1969

Village Council told town losing Ambulance Service

The village council learned, at its regular monthly meeting, that the town is losing its ambulance service. Donald Bourgeois, representing Nordquist and Bourgeois Funeral Chapel, which for many years has provided the service to the community, told the village fathers that his firm would, effective September 1, no longer be in the ambulance business. Bourgeois said that regulations imposed on the service by recently enacted legislation made the move necessary.

Miss DeCock named Style Revue Queen

The announcement of the Court of Honor and selection of the queen who will reign until the 1970 4-H Fashion Revue was the highlight of the evening of July 31. Crowned Lyon County 1969 4-H Dress Revue Queen was Anne DeCock, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Walter DeCock of Ghent. Gladys Myhre, Nordland Top Notchers, was named one of the Attendants to Queen Anne.

At Girl Scout Camp

Seven Brownies were among the 23 members of the local Girl Scout organization who spent last week at a camp at Oraas Grove, south of Clarkfield. The Brownies are Doris Konold, Trudy Wigness, Kathy Esping, Traci Myrvik, Cynthia VanOverbeke, Sandra Wambeke and Cindy Drown.

Golf Tourney winners

These were the winners last Sunday in the Annual Countryside Golf Tournament. The men are: John Buysse, 5th flight; Jim Eggen, 2nd flight; John Canton, first flight; Orven Olson, third flight; Clifford Dahl, sixth flight; Richard Hanson, eighth flight; Richard Magnuson, seventh flight; Frenchie DeAustin, fourth flight and Ron Erickson, championship flight. Win Awards Robin and Rhonda Pesch presented a Navajo Indian dance and an Acrobatic duet at the International Peace Gardens on Sunday, August 3rd. Their performance was a specialty act of the Annual Formal Garden Concert.

Community Pride Project

The members of the Eidsvold Lucky Stars 4-H Club continued their involvement with “Daren’s Park” by making and donating bird houses and feeders. Those who made bluebird, robin and wren houses along with several finch feeders are: Michelle Traen, Nicole Anderson, Kayla Downing, Rachel Rabaey, Jenna Anderson, Jessica Hettling, Lori Sarazyn, Shanteli Vlaminck, Ellen Wambeke, Sara VanMoorlehem and April Hammerstrom. Daren’s Park suffered a vast amount of damage last summer when the flood waters claimed planted flowers, wild flowers, trees and wildlife habitat along its path of destruction.

Celebrated 95th birthday

Lucy Moorse celebrated her 95th birthday at a party hosted by her children, Joe Moorse of Great Falls, Montana; Bernard and Helene Moorse; Katherine and Ray Olafson; Leo and Colleen Moorse; Richard and Georgette Moorse; Frank and Marie Moorse; all of Minneota; and Lawrence and LaVonne Moorse of Marshall.

Youth Gathering

Slides, talks and songs with the congregation at Hope Lutheran was shared on Sunday morning about the ELCA Youth Gathering in Atlanta, Georgia. The following youth attended this event: Matthew Rand, Jennifer Thostenson, Beth Miller, Angela Yost, Laurie Anderson, adult leader Connie Larson, Ryan Rand, Paul Nuytten, Mindy Hovland, Amanda Drown, Mindy VanDePutte, Luther League Advisor Deb Green, Luther League Advisor Jim Green, Donald Waltz, Jamie Lanners, Jessica Nuytten, Justin Thostenson, Justin Korman, Eric Alleckson, Brady VanVooren, Pastor Tim Larson, Adam Hagen, Nicole Briley, Luke Ahlschlager, Michyl Dalager, Joel Hagen and Marcy Jeremiason.
