75 Years Ago-June 16, 1944

Bond drive

Minneota, Ghent, Nordland, precincts in the northwest district of Lyon county, have all exceeded their quotas in the Fifth War Loan Drive, H.J. Tillemans, who heads the drive in this district, announced Thursday. Minneotans exceeded the quota set here on Friday of last week when they pledged themselves to buy almost $70,000 in bonds. The goal had been set for $60,000.00.

Sussner-Mattson

Miss Agnes Mattson, granddaughter of Mrs. Emma Haugen, and Joseph Sussner, son of Mr. and Mrs. George Sussner, were married at St. Edward’s parsonage on Tuesday, June 6.

Gilbertson-Hanson

Esther Hanson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Rudolph Hanson and Staff Sergeant Jervin Gilbertson, son of Mr. and Mrs. G. Gilbertson of Marshall, were married at the home of the bride’s parents on Sunday, June 4th.

A boy was born to Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Jelen on Wednesday, June 14.

50 Years Ago-June 19, 1969

Recreation Program launched

Coach Dale Yost, who is in charge of Minneota’s summer recreation program for boys, launched the activity here last week with the assistance of two youngsters, Richard Christianson and Brian Obe. Yost reported that 73 boys had signed up for the baseball phase of recreation and that 11 were signed up for golf. Douglas Spanton is his assistant. 30 girls sign up for recreation Thirty girls signed up for the feminine phase of Minneota’s summer recreation program when registrations were made this week. Miss Carol Finnegan, student at St. Cloud State college, will be heading up golf, tennis, arts and crafts, camping and softball.

Observe Golden Anniversary

Mr. and Mrs. Harry Moorse of Minneota, married by Rev. W. J. Stewart in St. Edward’s Catholic church here May 20, 1919, were honored guests of their children at a 50th wedding anniversary open house last Sunday.

Kompelien scores hole in one

It was reported to The Mascot Monday that K. P. Kompelien of Minneota had scored a hole in one at Countryside Golf club on Saturday, June 7. It is believed to be the first time that the shot has been made at the local golf club. Kompelien made his hole in one on the third hole, a drive of some 137 yards.

363 entries in Flower Show

Last Friday’s flower show here attracted 55 exhibitors with 363 entries and was attended by 440 persons. Grand championships were given to Mrs. Orin Hanson and Julie Alleckson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Alleckson.

Saffert-Hennen

On May 17, at St. Eloi’s church in Ghent, Jeannie Hennen was married to Ken Saffert. Rev. Joe Hennen, OCS, brother of the bride was celebrant. Jeannie is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Arnold H. Hennen of Minneota and Ken is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Roman Saffert of New Ulm.

25 Years Ago-June 15, 1994

One hundred-years old and going strong

Mathilde Fostvedt celebrated her 100th birthday on Monday at the Minneota Manor. Family and friends actually gathered on Sunday to help her celebrate this special occasion.

“Hometown Pride Award”

The MACC park and city beautification project in Minneota was named to the Honor Roll of Midwest Living magazine’s 1994 Hometown Pride Awards program. More than 450 volunteer projects were submitted to the Hometown Pride Awards program this year, on behalf of communities both large and small. Only 20 were chosen as the overall winners, with 93 named to the honor roll.

Nuytten taking part in Girls State

This week, June 12-18, Jessica Nuytten of this community is taking part in the Girls State activities at Bethel College. Nuytten is among 445 girls attending this year’s Girls State event. She is being sponsored by the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 199 of Minneota.
