75 Years Ago-May 26, 1944
Belgian Movie
A Belgian movie, with dialogue in that language, is scheduled for showing at the Joy Theatre here soon, Wm. Evans, manager, announced. The movie, which shows the evacuation of Dunkirk and battles in Belgium during the first part of the present war, is an official government film, and somewhat longer than the average movie.
New building
Workers will start next week on the construction of a large chick brooding plant to be erected by Dr. E.J. Kerr, on his lots next to his hatchery here. When finished the plant will be used to brood chicks from the time they leave the incubator until they are three weeks old. It will be equipped to brood 60,000 chicks, and will give the local hatchery facilities to handle 80,000 in brooding stage. This will give Minneota and the surrounding community one of the largest, if not the largest, chick starting plants in the state of Minnesota.

Mr. and Mrs. George Clifford of Alexandria, Minn., are the parents of a boy born, May 21. Mrs. Clifford is the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. E.T. Sanderson.
50 Years Ago-May 29, 1969
Spanton wins district golf tourney Saturday
Doug Spanton took top honors in the District golf tournament held on the local course Saturday as he shot an 81 for the 18 hole event. The Viking sophomore led Minneota to a second place tie with Marshall for total team score. A total of 41 golfers took part. Larry Langsweirdt was the other Viking to qualify for a regional berth with a score of 87. Other Minneota golfers were Bill Bourgeois, Joe Schulte, Bob Canton and Dave Afdem.
Elevator directors re-named Friday
Three men, Joseph Brewers, O.J. Wigness and Harry Moorse, were re-elected to the board of directors when stockholders of the Farmers and Merchants Supply Co. held their annual meeting.
Graduate
In commencement exercises held on Saturday at the College of St. Benedict at St. Joseph, Minn., Audrey Buysse, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Buysse, received her bachelor of arts degree with a major in medical technology and a minor in biology.
78 to receive diplomas tonight
Seventy-eight students, the second largest graduating class in the history of the Minneota High School, will receive diplomas when commencement exercises are held in the auditorium of the school.
No tornado
Though it might appear that houses on the former John Neisuis property in west Minneota, now owned by K.P Kompelien, were struck by a tornado last week that wasn’t the case. They were simply pulled down by heavy equipment. Kompelien, who acquired the property several months ago, said this week that the intention was to clear the property of the old buildings, tear down some old trees and level the ground off for residential building sties.

New park to be dedicated on Monday
The Lester R. Christianson Memorial Park will be officially dedicated on Monday, May 30th at 2:00 p.m. This park is located on South Jackson Street in Minneota, and has had extensive changes since its inception. A modern play area for children has been developed, with trees and seating area added with the help of local organizations.
Ghent names Boerboom for Girls State
Cari Boerboom, a Junior at Minneota High School, will be among the 445 girls attending Girls State this year. She is being sponsored by the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 564 of Ghent. She is the daughter of Scott and Terri Boerboom of Ghent.
GMT Women help neighboring communities
The GMT Women of Today have participated in special projects that help our local communities of Ghent and Taunton. Ghent Mayor Ted DeRoode and Taunton Mayor Rusty Rhymer received a $300 check to be used for park equipment. The City of Ghent is matching the donation.
