75 Years Ago-March 17, 1944
Weds movie star
Captain William Baldwin, grandson of Mrs. Ann Baldwin of Taunton, married Kim Hunter, a Hollywood actress recently. Life Magazine had photographers at the ceremony to take pictures of the event. This week’s issue of the publication had five pages of pictures of the wedding. Captain Baldwin of the Marine Corps is well known in the Taunton community, having been a frequent visitor there at the home of his grandmother.
Called for Physicals
A large number of Minneotans are among the men who will report at Fort Snelling for pre-induction physical examinations on March 19 and 22. Among them are: Leonard W. Allen, Edgar H. Gillund, James F. Flemming, Herman Wiese, Kenneth P. Kompelien, Henry B. Borson, Vernon E. Hawley and Gordon H. Winge.

Mr. and Mrs. Wm. McMahon moved into the Joe Traen home. Mr. and Mrs. Marcel Ross and Jerry have moved on the Ross farm in Alta Vista.
50 Years Ago-March 20, 1969
Doctor names Chief of Staff
Dr. Chas. Vandersluis of Minneota has been appointed chief of staff of Divine Providence hospital and home at Ivanhoe.
Prize winning cast
Thirteen members of the Nordland 4-H club play cast won top honors in the one-act play meet which was held at Lynd on Saturday, March 8. They are: Linda Jeremiason, Mary Rokeh, Ruth Jeremiason, Suzette Rye, LuAnn Tillemanns, Todd Hammer, Robin Hammer, Margaret Rye, Terry Jennen, Carolyn Rye and Kenneth Skaar, Gladys Myhre and Lois Josefson, who also directed the play.
Large Crowd listens to MBA Home Discussion
A large crowd listened attentively as Fred Odell and Rev. Joseph Webb of Minneapolis outlined their ideas for a nursing home for this community at a meeting of the Minneota Businessmen’s association Monday evening. At the end of the nursing home discussion, Superintendent Ralph Larson, who is chairman of the MBA’s nursing home said, “Everything is progressing smoothly.”
Baptism
Melissa Ann was born on March 10th and was the name given to the infant daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Douglas VanOverbeke at baptismal services on Wednesday of this week at St. Edward’s Catholic church. Baptismal sponsors were Mrs. Phillip Nuy and Duane VanOverbeke.
25 Years Ago-March 16, 1994
Chosen for Girls’ State
Selections were made this week for Girls’ State honors. Shown in the picture are alternate Kim Tillemans, American Legion Auxiliary President Helen Kompelien and this year’s Girls’ Stater, Jessica Nuytten.
Boys’ Staters from Minneota chosen
Representatives from the American Legion Post #199 and the new Boys’ State representatives gathered for this photo. They are: 2nd Vice Commander Mike Kern, Boys’ Stater Bryan Anderson, alternate Neil Hennen, Adjutant Omer Laleman, Boys’ Stater Jonathan VanMoorlehem, 1st Vice Commander Don Wigness and alternate Ryan Swedzinski. The two representatives will go to Boys’ Sate in mid-June.
Lincoln County Icelandic Lutheran Church moved
The “Icelandic Church”, located south and west of Minneota, was moved to Hendricks last Friday afternoon. The structure will become a part of the Pioneer Museum in Hendricks. Members of the Museum committee are making plans to restore and maintain the Church, depicting a part of early pioneer life in Lincoln County.
Project 120 participant
Jessica Nuytten of Minneota was among several Project 120 students who visited with Secretary of State Joan Growe on March 9. Project 120 is a program of the Institute of Learning and Teaching, bringing high school students from Minnesota for week-long sessions at the Capitol during the legislative session.
