75 Years Ago-March 3, 1944

Six in Army

Lt. Mary Ahern, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. G.F Ahern of Taunton, is the sixth one of the family to enter the armed services. She left on Sunday for Spokane, Washington, to take up her duties as a nurse in the Army Air Force. She has five brothers in the services, all members of the United States Army. One brother, Richard, is overseas.

Kloos-Dhaene

Miss Elizabeth Dhaene, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alphonse Dhaene of Burton township, and Leo Kloos, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Kloos of St. Leo, were united in marriage at St. Edward’s Catholic church, Tuesday, February 22.

Ligneel-Kinsley

Marcella A. Kinsley and Harvey C. Ligneel were married on Saturday, December 4th at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Darlow at Rosemead, California. Justice of the Peace, Eldred E. Wseford of El Monte, Calif., officiated at the ceremony.

Meinke-Rye

Miss Dorothy Rye, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Otto Rye, rural Minneota, and Sgt. A. Meinke of Minneapolis, were married at the Argonne Chapel at Fort Francis E. Warren at Sheridan, Wyoming of Friday, February 8th. Chaplin Maxwell performed the double-ring ceremony.

50 Years Ago-March 6, 1969

Nine Attending FHA Convention

Nine from this community will be attending the state Future Homemakers of America convention which is being held at St. Paul Friday and Saturday of this week. The are the state president, Susan Orsen, who will be keynote speaker at a banquet which is slated for Friday evening, Rhonda Pesch, voting delegate Suzette Rye, chorus delegate, Susan Eischens, Lynn Kockelman, Lorie Wigness, Margaret Pennings and Miss Collette Gifford, who will accompany the girls as the Minneota chapter’s advisor, and Mrs. Ethelyn Orsen, as one of the chapter’s mothers.

Home addition to be dedicated

The new 60-bed, nursing home wing at the Madison Lutheran Home, Madison Minn., will be dedicated next Sunday afternoon, the program to begin at 3 p.m.

Six inches snow fell here in week

Six inches of snow fell here this past Thursday and Friday, bringing with it .44 of an inch of moisture and raising the total snowfall in this community this winter to over 61 inches.

St. Leo School dropping two grades next term

Grades seven and eight will be dropped from the school at St. Leo at the end of the current school year as the result of a decision which was made December 18 at a meeting of the board of parish education of the St. Leo church.

Power firm paying $5 million in taxes

Otter Tail Power Company’s total tax bill for 1968 amounted to $5,835,000, according to Ted Rotenberger, Canby, district manager.

25 Years Ago-March 2, 1994

Students participate in academic competition

These students competed in the Junior High Knowledge Bowl on February 26th and came out with some very good scores. The team, coached by Ralph Hagen, must rely on their memories for all of the categories that are touched on in this Knowledge Bowl. The team members are: Ross Eischens, Sara VanMoorlehem, Curtis Gratz, Nicole Anderson, Joel Hagen and Jacob Murray.

Minneota represented by three at State meet

The Minneota Vikings wrestlers will have three teammates represent them at the State Tournament this Thursday, Friday and Saturday at the St. Paul Civic Center. Jason Fier earned second place in the 152 lb. division, Kevin Fier earned a first place in the 160 lb. division and Travis Gillund earned a second place in the 119 lb. division.

Speech team brings home hardware

The high school speech team had another successful outing on Saturday, placing second in the Fulda meet. Those who earned places are: Jessica Nuytten, Kayla Ahern, Eric Alleckson, Laurie Anderson, Nancy Loyson, Arra Ross, Adam Hagen, Nicki Coover, Jon VanMoorlehem, Rachel Rabaey, Pat Engels, Nicolle Coequyt, Jennifer Flood and John Fier.
