"One-eyed" cars
Minneota Police are on the lookout for "one-eyed" cars and those minus tail lights. There has been a lot of motorists with only one headlight or one tail light working on their car. Policemen are issuing warnings to those not fixing their lights. A second warning will result in a harsher penalty.

Doc speaks to
Native Americans
Doc Seals tells us he visited Watertown, South Dakota recently and at a railroad station came upon a band of Sioux Indians. Doc, who lived in the Watertown area as a boy, walked up to the group and spoke to them in their native language and they flocked around him. Some of the older ones recognized Doc, although they had not seen him for nearly 50 years.

Less work, more pay
Dell Walrath of Janesville was here a few days ago hunting with "Grozy" and remarked that he had spent the best years of his life working for the railroad company as station agent here for $45 per month. Dell said he was getting about five times that amount now per month in Janesville, and was not working as hard either.

Amundson remains returned; funeral service held here
The funeral of Leonard Amundson, whose remains were brought back from France last week, from the Norwegian Lutheran Church here last Sunday afternoon. Amundson was one of a group of 23 boys who left Minneota on the last day of April of 1917 to volunteer their services to their country. He went to France on August of 1918 and contracted influenza and died on October 3, 1918. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Gregor Amundson of this city.

Archbishop confirms class
of 87 at St. Edward's
John Gregory Murray, Archbishop of St. Paul, administered the Sacrament of Confirmation to a class of 87 children and adults at St. Edward's Catholic Church on Sunday afternoon. The Archbishop also confirmed classes in Marshall, Ghent and St. Leo on the same day. It was three years ago that the last class at St. Edward's was confirmed.

Strike doesn't affect
service in Minneota
The national strike of telephone employees , which is scheduled for Friday, will not affect service in Minneota, local office manager Mrs. Marie Meyer said. Although the strike will not affect the local office, long distance calls put in at the exchange here for larger cities will not go through during the strike hours of 1-5 p.m. It was thought that some of the smaller cities of the state would be affected.

Famous editor Gist
speaks at school
Nathon Howard Gist , a self-made man who worked his way through college in many kinds of jobs, spoke in the public school auditorium on Monday morning. As a newspaper editor, Mr. Gist learned to dig up and write those happenings in daily lives of people which makes news of interest. He was managing editor of a daily newspaper and is now an editorial writer for a national weekly of over 3,000,000 readers.

Governor speak at
Josefson testimonial
Minnesota Governor Harold LeVander was the main speaker at a testimonial dinner at the Marshall Golf Club honoring Senator Joe Josefson, who lived in Minneota most of his life. Members of the committee in charge of the dinner say that Sen. Josefson is being honored at this time because the people of Lyon County want to show their appreciation for the work that he has done during the 16 years he has served in the State Senate.

Vikings defeat Winthrop
The Minneota football team, coached by Dale Yost, beat Winthrop 12-8 last Friday to improve to 3-0-1 this season. Doug Spanton threw a 66-yard touchdown pass to Ken Byrne for Minneota's first score. That play was set up by a Bob Canton interception. Canton later intercepted another pass and returned it 48 yards for the Vikings' second touchdown. Spanton completed 3 of 7 passes for 100 yards, all to Byrne. Randy Obe made 13 tackles.

House full of steam
Mrs. Lottie Lanners of Taunton had a frightening experience last week when she suddenly noticed her house filling with steam. A pipe broke leading from her hot water heater in the kitchen and the water flooded her floor and ran down the basement steps. The heater was half full of hot water.

Pohlen, Ratajczak crowned
Homecoming King, Queen
Theresa Pohlen and Jamie Ratajczak were crowned Homecoming Queen and King, respectively, during Minneota Homecoming festivities on Monday. They reigned over festivities held throughout the week. Mindy VanDePutte was selected as Princess and Travis Gillund was crowned Prince. Crown bearers were Amber Meredith and Corey Gregor.

School board approves
$989,000 levy for 1995
Minneota School District 414 approved the 1995 levy for $989,312.33 at a meeting on Thursday night. This will be the levy that will be reviewed at the budget hearings in December and scheduled to be adopted at the Dec. 21, 1995 school board meeting.

Rolbiecki: from man to
mouse at Homecoming
Minneota Athletic Director Jim Rolbiecki made the mistake of saying that if anyone came in with a costume during Spirit Week, in conjunction with Homecoming, he would wear it. On Tuesday, during Disney Day, a staff member brought in a Minnie Mouse costume and, sticking to his word, Rolbiecki donned the costume. He even taught classes while wearing the costume.
