Sad, sad news

Dear Editor;

Reading about the closing of Dalager’s Gas/Convenience Store (4-17-19 Mascot) was tough news to hear.

I worked at Dalager’s before it was Dalager’s, and I was Chet and Evelyn’s first employee.

My uncle Jim DeRider owned it prior to Chet and Evelyn, and they (my aunt and uncle) lived in the area that became the convenience store.

They then built their first house on the western edge of town ( and almost lost it in the flood of 1965).

I will never forget the gas pumps (regular AND ethyl) being on the curb, the old ringer washer for ringing out the chamois to clean the windows, the bulk oil in bottles, and of course the nickel bottles of Coke!!!

I hope someone steps up to take over the business, it hurts to see places like this close their doors.

Holding out hope……..
