Hands-free August 1

On August 1, 2019, it will be illegal to drive while holding your cell phone in your hand. The new law is designed to prevent distracted driving and save lives.

You will still be able to use your phone but your use is limited to voice commands (Bluetooth) or single-touch activations.

This doesn't mean that a conversation is any less of a distraction but the hope is that if your phone is not in your hand you will pay more attention to your driving.

You are allowed to use your phone for GPS navigation but all non-navigation apps are prohibited.

Plan ahead to avoid a ticket. I will be enforcing this law on August 1.
