Ask the Chief

What is the biggest threat to a community?

When I ask people this question, they often reply, drugs, drunk driving, or assaults.

Although these behaviors damage communities, there is something far more dangerous that may actually cause the before mention trouble.

What is it you ask?

It’s lying, denial of truth, selfishness, arrogance, deceit, gossip, jealousy, envy, pride, manipulation and much more.

Every crime I investigate and every problem I am called upon to resolve, can be boiled down to basic human character flaws.

As a culture, we have a difficult time in taking ownership of our actions.

It’s a fact that I have never been called to deal with an honest person.

I have never seen a dispute where both parties were quick to apologize and even quicker to forgive.

I have never been asked to investigate a hard worker or a generous person.

I have never had to break up a peaceful discussion among people who respect each other.

The point I want you to take away from this, is that problems start inside each of us.

Our character, ethics and morals will direct our lives and put us on a path of peace or the path or conflict.

If you want a safe community, it starts with each of us in our own homes and lives.
