Minneota Coach Val Whipple (right) led his team to the Section 3A North boys' basketball finals with a 65-63 stunning win over Dawson-Boyd Thursday night.
"This is the first time Minneota has been in the playoff finals since 1960," Whipple told The Mascot.
The man who has coached over 38 years got his squad a conference championship when they won the Camden South and that was a first. Now, Whipple's squad will play at 6 p.m. Saturday night at SMSU in Marshall for a right to play the Section 3A South Champion. That winner would go to the state tournament.

A fire in the kitchen at CJ's Restaurant in Minneota Wednesday night has forced owners Kari and Dan Morisette to close the business until at least Monday.
"We hope to open by Monday," said Kari Morisette. However, it's possible it could be later in the week before they open.
"It was an employee mistake, turning the burners up too high," she said. A grill will have to be replaced and possibly a fryer, said the owners.
Many of the items in the kitchen were scorched and some plastic items were melted, At this time health inspectors are being called to determine what items need to be taken out because of smoke damage.
"We're closed for now. Hopefully it won't be too long but we'll open again," said Dan Morisette. |
